while matt and his group continued on, squr3l and i decided to ride and find a shade so we can wait for the other riders who fell behind
    [IMG]

still to this day not sure what's behind that dam/sand dune like formation
    [IMG]

we found our first water crossing
    [IMG]

    buck went for it
    [IMG]

    my turn
    [IMG]

    then to the next challenge
    [IMG]

    there it is
    [IMG]

    i went first
    [IMG]

    then buck
    [IMG]

lucky buck he found the deepest section...above the axle
    [IMG]

he had the right rain gear except for the boots...:raindance
    [IMG]

we settled at a nice spot next to the trail and waited for everyone

don't want to keep you guys ran out of popcorns....grab a soda.

finally, bigtodd showed up. what a great guy! one rider had a issue with his bike so bt gave him the escort service.

we gave him the directions where the group went and he didn't waste any time
    [IMG]

then these guys happily obliged to get their pictures added to the RR. yes, awesome to see peeps are still riding horses in the forest!

2 other riders on KTMs not from our group hanged out with us. here spotting who's coming.

    damn...now it's a zoo or what perry would call it...the l.a. traffic...:lol3
    [IMG]

    nice jump there lior....:clap
    [IMG]

i can see bt rejoined the PPs after all
    [IMG]

    silvina and lior
    [IMG]

our fearless leader matt, shawn and todd
    [IMG]

squr3l and i managed to stay with the group only for a short distance. the 690 won't run smoothly, apparently swallowed water in the last river crossing (we didn't know exactly was wrong at the time, buck thought it was the fuel filter or injector). so we decided to stay on the main road in case the situation turned to worse, while the PPs did the optional single track in the meadows. no group ride on this one...:nod

    more coming....:deal

A few more pics from the Saturday ride out to Monache Meadows...

Objective for today was to take a mild route out to Monache and back. I think we had 11 riders in the group leaving camp, and for many of them this was their first time in the area.

We took the pavement down to Fish Creek campground, then turned north on FR21S37.

I tried to set a quick pace to spread out the dust, but Ma Duce was only seconds behind when I stopped :bow
    [IMG]

At the Albanita trail crossing, most of the group dived down the single-track, never to be seen again :eekers (... until later.)

Around the corner - where we expected to regroup - we found only this guy babbling about Italian dream machines and :dunno
    [IMG]

For awhile it was only Shawn (dzrtracin) and I, but we collected Alan (aanichols) and Lior along the 4x4 trail out to Monache.

    :ricky
    [IMG]

We made our way over to the end of the road at South Fork for a short break (passing Joel and Buck on their way out).

River looked good here, not too deep, not too shallow.

Heard more bikes coming as we were about ready to leave... Turned out the rest of the group had found their way, so the break stop was extended.

Lior put on a show for the crowd :lift
    [IMG]

Silvina took the li'l 250 back and forth thru the river and managed to stay totally dry (... for now :evil)

    :thumb
    [IMG]

Back out to the main meadow, and now everybody has to cross the river :nod
    [IMG]

Todd157k takes a gentlemanly approach :ilmostro
    [IMG]

Shawn gives his Italian mistress a bath :raindance
    [IMG]

Silvina about ot be Malcom'd by BigTodd :D
    [IMG]

Good behavior at the second crossing...

... 'cept Shawn making sure everything was squeeky clean.

One last regroup before setting off back to camp, but unfortunately we left a couple stragglers at the river. Word came down the line that Buck's 690 was having problems (apparently a drinking problem :beer) and Joel had stayed to help. Big Todd and I rode back to lend a hand, but didn't find any sign of the boys. Guess they must have got the bike going and would be following the 4x4 trail out, so we did the same. Made it back to Troy and found everyone accounted for :clap

Gathering 'round for bbq time :dukegirl
    [IMG]

Tim (of Temecula) workin' the grill :0-0
    [IMG]

    :kumbaya
    [IMG]

As usual, the banter around the campfire got pretty goofy as the night wore on.
Fabio, Benito, prosthetic legs... :loco Good times :photog

Yup... Growing up in No. Cal, I learned a loooong time ago.. getting cute in a water crossing is either going to get you a flooded motorcycle, or flooded boots. I wanted neither. :deal

In the past years, that crossing was the highlight of the ride. Refreshing and great photo op. Many tried, but Xymotic was the wettest champion.

    No drowned bikes.

A few pics from the Sunday ride home...

Started out with the same crew from the ride up... Todd157k, Ma Duce, and squr3l.

Nice leisurely ride down past Kennedy Mdws :ricky
    [IMG]

Turned off at the top of 9-Mile Cyn and followed Chimney Peak Rd down into the heat and haze along Hwy178.

Short stop at Walker Pass (5,300') to clean lenses and say adios :wave
    [IMG]

Then a fast descent down to Hwy14 where the boys turned south towards Mojave...

.. while I continued due east on Bowman Rd.

Numerous fires to the north and south made for terrible air quality and a vague horizon.

Only one short stop at Johannesburg for fuel and refreshments before the final 100 miles of searing slab :knary
    [IMG]

Was nice to get home to the A/C, but would've liked to stay up in the trees :nod

Think we need to do it again this year :deal

    we have campfire
    [IMG]

later it got dark and we have plenty of firewood
    [IMG]

it was chilly when i went to bed
    [IMG]

happy to host the BBQ and thanks to all who served, including those who helped bring fuel, water, beer and chairs for those who rode up. they're the one who keep the ADV spirit alive.

a week earlier, the hot weather just made most of us not to ride and stay indoor, but rider914 the chief instigator made us come out. good job everyone for making the weekend a productive one.

Great meeting you all, But I'm Mike B (HandCanonShootr) was happy to assist in the early space securing. Joel's Chili, burgers, and a beer (or 2) continued great times. Great riding (FS Roads) both days.
Lets not forget Mesquite, DJ 1942, Shawn(Sean?), & BT, which definitely made for a friendly, comfortable campsite.

Thx Matt & Joel for getting this rolling.

    Mike B.
