Never been to Parkfield. Highway 33 to 46 should get me there in one shot. An overnighter would be a good plan.

Jim. Thanks for posting your report and would love to do a similar ride, hopefully, next month.

Oooohhh Take the 33 and camp in the Carrizo Plain. There is a cool free campground. It's called KCL Campground. Check out the earthquake stuff in Parkfield. It's pretty interesting.

I feel like it's relevant to the current discussion... my local club (Central Coast Motorcycle Association) is hosting an organized "Adventure" ride on March 21st. It will be roughly 250 miles starting from Paso Robles, heading towards Big Sur, and looping all the way back to the Pozo Saloon. I don't know the exact route yet, but I'll be working sign-ups and possibly driving sweep in my van. In case some of you might be interested, there's more info here: http://pozoriders.com

Pozo Saloon has a new owner and i haven't had the chance to contact them, ask permission to camp in the back.

KCL is a beautiful campground except for the spot i took has owls occupying the upstairs floor

not too much zzzzz for me that night.

TLJ. post up anything that will help fellow riders to come out, discover more places and enjoy the riding season. really anything to make our sport grows.

    good luck on your ride.

last Sunday, we did a big loop and rode all the way to hw166.

    Right thru my backyard!

Santa Cruz, Santa Rosa would be the next island to your right, but it would look like it was a continuation of Santa Cruz from where you were. San Miguel is hard to see from that far South.

I recognize that flying site! Haven't flown there since the 90s, but I have fond memories of the place. Thanks for the ride reports, and I'm glad you had a great day!

I need to get out more. These RR's are inspiring.

On a really good day you can see through the Arch at the south end of the southern of the three large lumps of rock that comprise Anacapa Island, but you'll need to be further south than Camino Cielo can take you. Some spots on CA33 have a good view of this. Even near the Cross in Ventura's Grant Park can have a good view of this.
Top Tip: rainy day reading - find a copy of "Diary of a Sea Captain's Wife" if you're interested in the human history around the Channel Islands starting in the early 1900's.

at least one of them is in the sky while the 2 were setting up. that's an awesome experience to be up in the air without using fuel-powered motor. for us mortals, we can use google earth.

it's raining today, thanks and bought a used book for $7.02 shipped.

very familiar with the santa catalina, santa barbara and san nicholas but never been to the islands across SB.

i love the ocean and exploring small islands. the sea is in my blood. came from a family of fishermen and fishfarmers. we were raised near the ocean and use to swim in the river next to our backayard, catching crabs, oysters, shrimps, eels, tilapya, mussels and clams with our makeshift tools. back then we thought it was paradise and we'll never go hungry. that was 50 years ago and completely gone now.

still 0n avid scuba diver and still love open-ocean fishing. i think the ocean is my refuge when i ran out of ldry and.

recently, i took a ferry to cross a small river and paid the paddler to sit down so i can take over his job.....we all survived

It is indeed fun! In case you're curious, and at the risk of sullying this excellent thread with one of my own sorry photographs, here's wahat it looked like from the air when I was a much younger man. This was 6000' or so feet above Ojai back in 1991. And yes, Rt 33 is down there...somewhere... in all of it's glory. I envy you fellows who have it in your back yard! :clap
