You know, NFSW, I see rides like yours all the time. It seems there ARE open trails locally around SoCal, I just haven't found many. I'm going to do some more exploring this year around the San Gabriel valley. On another note, does anyone know if the roads outside of Silverwood Lake are open? My son "graduates" tomorrow and we are thinking of riding up to Big Bear either Sunday or Monday using mostly dirt roads.

after seeing the government is easing up on the Stay-In-Place, we decided to get out for fresh air and clear our minds. today's goal is to connect the forest roads that that i saw on the last ride. those f.s. roads had been close for 10 years and now it's time to reclaim what's ours.

i guess you made it to San Jose yesterday.

that explains having the hard panniers....:yikes

Mark, you should feel better in a day or two. why not, a good seat would be one more way to enjoy riding.

the thick dust layer on the road made it skittish to control the bike. in my case, having the stock tires on doesn't help either.

Fun ride Monday. KSU at 9:00am. Well not quite. Everyone was there and ready except this guy on the right side of the picture. He moseyed in about ten after. That's why everyone is staring at him. There's always one in a group.
    P5250055.JPG

Even this guy who looks like a smaller version of Yzlver was there. He rode Little Tujunga with us, the first leg of our day, then split off to go do some road racing or something.
    P5250056.JPG

Next we crossed the 14 over to Bouquet Canyon which we turned off onto Coarsegold trail. This was the first dirt that Sopascat has ridden in about 3 years since a bad accident which left her quite reluctant to ride again. In other words, this was a big deal for Cathy and she did great. But after a couple miles of it she had had her fill for the time being. Since I didn't really want to get my bike dirty, I agreed to ride back down the trail with her and meet everyone at the next waypoint. Everyone else carried on down 6N18. Kind of bummed because I heard that there were some really fun ruts on the part I missed.

We all met back up at the corner of Boquet and Spunky Canyons. While waiting, Cathy and I got to watch a bunch of people driving like they've been on lockdown for a couple of months. We even got to see a guy doing donuts in the middle of the intersection. Mmm...donuts.
    P5250062.JPG

    CCer and sito
    P5250065.JPG

From here, Cathy and I recruited one more rider to ride streets with us while the others rode Spunky Edison Road to Leona Divide Fire road and we all met up at the Rock Inn.
    P5250079.JPG

    Inside we found some bandits.
    P5250072.JPG

I'm pretty sure this is their leader. Someone in his gang had completely destroyed the bathroom just prior this picture.
    P5250077.JPG

I think this must be their hideout. Definitely a scary looking bunch. One of them shoots a hand cannon, one rides in all seasons, one is called Sito and the name they call their leader is definitely NSFW.

After lunch my excuses for not getting my bike dirty all went their separate ways. The six of us who were left crossed the street and headed up Lake Hughes Truck Trail. This was the trail where Cathy earned her name "Cliff Diver" about ten years ago. Then to 7N01. Lots of good views up here.
    P5250083.JPG

We needed two sweeps since I was on this ride. One could get my bike up but it would take both of them to get me off the ground. Thanks Klammer and sito.
    P5250084.JPG

All of the old timers are sure to remember this corner at 7N01 and 6N24. We would always regroup here and while waiting for the slower riders, the guys waiting would charge up and down the little hill climb in the background.
    P5250086.JPG

This guy claimed to be SlowerThanYou but was usually in front of most of you.
    P5250088.JPG

This rider hasn't mastered his ADV salute just yet.
    P5250089.JPG

Our last obstacle of the day was this major deep river crossing. Klammer shows NSFW a good line.
    P5250091.JPG

...and manages to get across without sinking or flooding his bike. At one point, I think the water was half way up his sidewall.
    P5250093.JPG

Now it's time for NSFW. I managed to get him on time lapse photo. His form and line look perfect.
    P5250097+.jpg

Unfortunately I had to edit out this little section where he got detoured.
    P5250097++.jpg

We took a minute of shade then headed for San Francisquito Canyon Rd.
    P5250099.JPG

From there, while there were still more roads Joel wanted to explore, we all opted to head home. This was a great leisurely day of riding on some roads and trails that brought back some great memories of the 'good ol' days' of ADVrider. Thanks Joel and Rich for making this happen and thanks everyone who came out and rode.
