Thanks BenTravelin, I would take the KLR but it would probably have to be a day trip and that’s a long way on the slab. I’ve yet to take my Vstrom off-road but do have K70s mounted. Just gotta find the right day.

If you run into any issues, not to worry. Usually a few mini vans and Prius' travel that road road frequently ... in other words it's a very easy dirt road. Have a great time.

If the Prius driver stops to help me pick up the bike I'll be sure to put the pic up on the wall of shame...

That would have been nice plus a soak but I only took a few stops. Those trees sure look like Bristle Cone Pine Trees and they are at about 9,000 ft. It was a 200 mile loop from Reedley. One of my favorites riding from 230 feet to over 9,200 feet to White Bark Vista. It was 63 degrees at the top in the afternoon.

Do not ever turn down the opportunity to tour the SCE road on Big Creek itself. Stunning bit of road complete with a waterfall that can rain directly on the bridge over it often enough that the road deck there is steel grating.

Second day ride on my new twin with DCT transmission. I love this transmission. Did paved twisties, gravel and a 4x4 trail. 250 mile loop.

Lots of great riding in Central California.

A good question that many have asked. Here's Huell Howser's take.

Awesome! I need to get back up there soon. Did you go up via Trimmer Spring Rd., CA168, or?

Took old Tollhouse to 168 and then east to Dinkey Creek and Wishon and Courtright. I have also been up there via Black Rock Road but it was too hot for that route.

Lots of options for dirt, 4x4 trails and paved roads in this area.

A few years ago, I was stopped on a dirt road at the back of Pine Flat lake when a bear dropped out of a tree that was next to me.

Another time while I was riding solo on Black Rock road a few miles up the hill from Balch Camp, a very large, dark chocolate brown colored mountain lion, stepped out of the bushes right in front of me and casually walked across the road. I always thought mountain lions were light brown.

These things always happen when I’m riding solo and I don’t have time to get a picture. Encountering wild life that could eat you keeps things interesting. I have learned through the years that honking my horn doesn't do much but revving my engine gets bears and cows to move. Didn't do anything except look at that mountain lion as I didn't want it to take an interest in me. I look up more now when in remote back country trails because you never know what is lurking above.

day late, part two of part one! Who is ready to BRAAAP!? :p3rry

That trail, is the only continuous dirty connect between Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear Lake area I know of... it can be a bike wrecker, at my skill level anyway... :photog

that's the part where i got kinda stuck because I eased up concentration... funner parts below... go ride it if you doubt me, and not on a 300EXC, that's too easy! :rofl

    Next up, flat crab! :hmmmmm

Hooooi! there is a lake over there! Lets braaap!:ricky:super

But first, super secret trail to get there :augie

Mega beauty has been found... am I really in SoCal?!

Then suddenly, three obstacles later, the night's goal appears! The BB!

Pack something warm... i thought... my accommodations for the night were a bit drafty!

Who wants to see day two? :D
