Can KTM build a significantly lighter 700-800cc twin? Is there a market for it?

Discussion in 'Crazy-Awesome almost Dakar racers (950/990cc)' started by LukasM, Oct 28, 2012.

?

Would you buy a 370 lbs wet, 80-90 HP, 700-800cc twin, priced between 690 and 990?

  1. Tomorrow, bring it on!

  2. Too small, prefer the exisiting 990 and upcoming 1190.

  3. Too big, prefer a single.

  4. Not interested in a KTM.

I just wanna know how heavy it's going to be.

In my mind I want this bike to have ~100hp (seems confirmed), a 250 mile range and weigh around 400lbs wet.

If it does, I'll trade my 990 in for one

I agree that for KTM right now the money is in BIG adv bikes but I do think the tide is turning. Look at the new 125 and 390 dukes. They dont feel like small budget bikes anymore. The car world learned about a decade ago that people are moving to smaller, lighter vehicles but they dont want to give up the tech of the larger models to do it. Hopefully the bike world cottons onto this soon as well.

BTW I have one of the 2017 390's and I think an ADV version would be totally amazing. Except they would probably give it 17 inch wheels.....

Well the duke is good, tft screen, autoblipper etc etc included in £8500 price, and wet weight is around 170kgs, adventure version will be heavier (bigger tank), but should knock the229 KG 850GS into the weeds. Should be cheaper too as the KTM looks to includes such BMW extras as TFT screen and autoblipper as standard.

Interesting poll results so far. A lot more than what I thought would be.

The more I read about it the more I like......except it should have duel underseat pipes.
