So, what if the border doesn't open? I mean for the next few years.
Just wondering. The fact that Alberta has the highest case count per population in North America makes
me think everybody is getting ahead of themselves.

After talking to my cousin in Canada I don't expect to be able to visit this summer. Even though I have Canadian citizenship there is still the quarantine requirement. Something the officials take very seriously.

NS has had over 100 cases a day for several days in a row now. First time going over 100 since since it started. We're not supposed to travel outside our own town around here, and folks are ticketed.

So yeah, we're a ways away from "opening up".

Once everyone is vaccinated, and the daily cases and deaths dwindle to very low, but I really can't see it changing much for 2021. Maybe this time next year...

I hope the judge understands as well as you do that these charges are all trumped up.

Yukon to drop self-isolation requirement for people who arrive fully vaccinated

Interesting development. Once fully vaccinated we can now travel to the Yukon. Alberta will soon open vaccination to anyone over 12 years of age, our second shot of vaccine should come sooner than expected, maybe early June! Most of my friends and relatives in the US have now received two doses.

Not to prematurely boost anyones hopes but CBC is reporting that preliminary discussions are taking place regarding the reopening. At this point it is likely only to discuss what each country would require to make it happen and the fact that we are not doing so well in vaccinations or cases per capita would mean the US would probably not be in a hurry.

Horizons Unlimited has cancelled this years Newfoundland meeting due to the venue canceling all events this year.

I still plan to go there if border opens by Sep 1.

As previously mentioned Canada is thinking a 75% vaccination rate before border reopening. The Canadian Chamber of Commerce likes 75% partially vaccinated (one shot) since Canada is holding off on giving the second shot until most people have gotten the first one (which 50.58% have). I got my first shot in the third week of April, but my second appointment is in late August.

Nova Scotia is at 43.3% today for 16 and over, with 4.8 having the 2nd dose (mostly seniors and health care workers). They're expecting 75% (1st shot) by June 7th and looks like the plan is to have 105 days between 1st and 2nd shots.

Hard to speculate, but could be near 100% by July at this rate.

I was skeptical for any movement to get inside or outside of Atlantic Canada for 2021. But may be some light at the end of this tunnel.

I haven't been reading everything but are they considering province to province? How would that be policed? I could enter in Ontario and cross over to Quebec w/o a border crossing between province. Seems like it has to be all or nothing...but NS/NL luckily can police this better than the land locked provinces.

Right now there can be police checkpoints on inter-provincial roads (I.E. Ontario and Quebec bridges between Ottawa & the Quebec side), but I expect that would be a non-issue once the US-Canada border opens.

That’s good progress. But your “near 100% by July” is for a single dose, correct?

Again, that would be good progress, but this is a 2-dose regimen to get fullest protection. A single dose is a great improvement in immunity, but still only about 75% efficacy. And if 100% of the population has only a single dose, you’re only half-way through the immunization campaign.

Keep up the good work but don’t count chickens yet!

I'd imagine that a license plate from out of province/country would stick out to police pretty easily.

Yeah, it's just the 1st dose. Not counting chickens and the province will be strict still.
