Of course, now some will spend another $100 to buy maps that they will have to manually load to the unit and may suffer limitations as to how much of the map set can be loaded. The extra cost for background maps brings the cost up beyond the 64st that already has the complete map set built in with no hassles. :dunno

the only difference in the 64s vs the 64st is the topographic maps, which i didn't care for anyway

No, the s only has 4gb of memory and the st has 8gb in addition to the pre-loaded maps.

If you are looking for a background trail map check out vvmapping.com for great lakes orv maps.

vvmapping has a great product for the great lakes. I use it most of the time for dual sport riding. Highly regarded by many.

Great deal! I bought one on Amazon about 5 weeks ago for $268. Sale price then was $250 plus 10.5% tax

I'm confused by their product description. Most of their other units specify that they receive GPS and GLONASS signals. (GLONASS being the Russian system) This one lists the satellites as "GLOSNASS." Does that mean it doesn't receive the American GPS signals and uses only the Russian satellites?...and the funny spelling is noted. Digging into the reviews and product descriptions and I haven't yet found an answer.

You should write to Garmin and tell them that you are confused and that they should tighten up Cabelas for being careless and that you don't like being inconvenienced by having to go through the BFI of going to the Garmin website to get more detailed information. You shouldn't have to suffer like this.

What's a BFI? I'm looking at their web site and will report back if I can find an answer.
