For those that visit Skinner's or Skeeter's places near Trenary, MI (in the Upper Peninsula), or for anyone that rides in the UP, I have recorded a few rides that you can make while there. This saves you the trouble of scouting out routes. The rides start and end near Trenary or Gwinn. They involve pavement, gravel, dirt, and scenery and are pretty entertaining. There are some remote sections, so best to ride these with a buddy.

Here is route 1 (interactive map).

This track was shared with us by our friend 2TrakR who recorded it sometime ago. I edited the raw track a little. The track starts and ends in Gwinn. There is a gas stop available along the route.

This route is a combination of some track I have ridden earlier and some track that Freeflow generated on a recent ride of his. I edited his raw track (about 100+ miles worth) and added it to some other to create a loop that can be ridden out of Gwinn, MI. This trip is about 225 miles.

Here is a link to an interactive map of the route.

This is a ride that was led by myself and Skinner Jr. It incorporates some of Jim Jr's favorite local spots near his home in Marquette and some of our familiar travel routes. It is about a 110 mile ride.

This track is about 135 miles long. It runs on scenic forest roads, a railroad grade ORV trail, and a couple of other sections of less developed ORV trail. It starts just outside of Trenary in the Central UP and runs through a portion of the Hiawatha National Forest. A Michgan ORV sticker is required for the ORV trail portions. There is gas enroute.

This is an approximately 210 mile route that takes in three ORV trails:
    Felch Grade (RR grade ORV)
    Norway (ORV/ATV Trail)
    Forest Islands (ORV/ATV Trail)
(Tracks drawn on the actual ORV trails are drawn loose. Follow the trail.)

It starts and ends in Escanaba. Parking available at nearby shopping centers.

It requires a MI ORV sticker to ride the ORV trails.

This route will work for ORVs that have a sticker but might not be street legal.

It starts at Diffin Rd and US 41. From there it follows local roads that permit ORV operation (I checked it against the Michigan Off-Road Guide), snowmobile trails, and other forest roads. It has a little pavement and is mostly gravel or dirt. Some of the snowmobile trail sections are pretty nice to ride - a destination unto themselves.

It is 73 miles to gas in Gwinn. The gas station is accessible (within a block of the ORV permissible roads). There is also a Subway in the gas station. From Gwinn it is about 8 miles to the trail. The trail is about 25 miles itself. You will probably have to backtrack to Gwinn to top off before backtracking the original leg home. Don't worry about backtracking - most of the route is pretty entertaining and worth doing twice. Total mileage for a round trip is about 220-230 and will be a full day with the single track.

The tracks for the single track are very approximate. If anyone plans on doing some Michigan riding, especially with the trails, I would recommend getting the ORV + Snowmobile map from vvmapping.com. The background maps are perfect for scouting rides and the trails appear in detail as part of the map. There is also information for which forest roads allow ORV use.

We came across some wolf tracks on this route. Watch out for bears and deer when riding fast in the woods.

Many thanks to 2TrakR for some components of this route.

A group of us are planning on heading to this area at the end of August to ride for 5 days. What are you ideas on the best state park campgrounds to stay at? I see that Bass Lake, Little Lake and Anderson Lake are all close to each other. Any preferences? We will be doing all day trips and back to camp that same day! Looking for some technical and fun stuff with maybe a few play area's as well.

    Thanks in advance...

I think that Little Lake might be closed for a while due to budget problems. Best to check in this first.

If you don't have the tracks already, I can e-mail them to you.

I dont have the tracks yet! Blazinbya will probably chime in and you can send them to him! Are there any public campgrounds with showers and such in the Gwinn area? I think we will base out of that area as gas is close and there seem to lots of options from that area!
