Some had interest in the GPS tracks from this report:
Posting them here.
Poison Spider, Golden Spike, Gold Bar Rim
White Rim Trail
La Sal Pass
7 Mile Rim +
These tracks are now available again for download. Many thanks to fellow ADVer deputyjones who offered some server space.
Go to http://dsam-mi.org/GPS_Files/ and you will see a directory of folders that contain the files. You should be able to choose the proper directory without much trouble. The individual files will have names that are the same as or similar to the file names listed when the files were hosted on ADV.
The files are listed as .zip files. If you left click/open the file, you will open it in your computer's temporary internet directory. Depending on how you have your computer set up, clicking on the .gpx will open the file with Mapsource so you can look at it. Remember, it is in your temporary internet files.
To save the file in one of your neatly filed directories, "left click/save" or "right click/save target as" and put it where you want to keep it.
Some of the files have an associated spreadsheet file with points of interest (Black Hills, Pony Express, etc). Same procedures apply.
Happy to have quick and easy access to these files again.
Thanks! I will use these one day.
I'm able to upload the previously lost tracks on ADV again.
Thanks Cannon! GPS maps and tracks loaded, leaving this coming friday. :)
Cannonshot, I have been interested in Pony Express and see in above post you mention some waypoints? I would really like to see those waypoints if you have them handy , Thank you for posting these tracks, as a guy from Ohio, I just love riding in Utah
I am on the road right now. Check my Pony Express ride report and it will reference the location of the tracks. Easiest to go via cannonshot.net .
Thanks and hope you are on the road for fun.
Oh yeah. Proof ride on a new adventure route.
Headed out to the Moab area at the end of the month. Are these still good routes?
There has been severe deterioration in the popular trails around Moab over the past 8-10 years. IMHO it is caused by 4 wheelers. But I am biased.
Many trails that used to be fun to ride on a dirt bike have sections that are virtually unrideable. Two that I am familiar with are Lockhardt Basin and Kane Creek. I have heard that Poison Spider and Pritchett Canyon have also suffered.
But having said that, you can still get thru the really bad sections if you have a small group and can help each other. The majority of the rest of the parts of the trails are still great.
Top of the World is ruined. Much worse than I remember it when I rode it 15 years ago. I agree, the SXS revolution is damaging trails but they have every right to use them just like we do.
My small contribution to a solution is to stop bragging about new places to ride that I find out there. No more ride reports or track postings. Except for Moab.
Kane Creek was fine last year. Hamburger Hill was knarly but there is a bypass for bikes. I don’t think the SUVs have done much damage there.
