This scenic tour involves the Mississippi River and the adjacent bluffs and valleys in Buffalo and Pepin Counties in Wisconsin. The track begins right across the river from Winona, MN. This route will wear the sides of your tire tread and will pop your ears a few times as you travel up and down the bluffs. I spend a few months a year in this area on outdoor pursuits. Watch for deer and curves that sometimes turn sharper than you do. It runs about 180 miles but takes a little longer than you'd expect. Things to see/do: -Stop at the Monarch Public House in Fountain City. It is in a book of the 50 best taverns in Wisconsin. -Enjoy the ride across the tops of Fountain City Ridge and Canada Ridge. Spectacular vistas looking down the coulees. -Near Cochrane you will pass the Prairie Moon Museum. Stop and enjoy the curiosities. -Ride a shore road through Buffalo City. -Take a side trip to the top of the bluff at Buena Vista park in Alma. Fantastic views up and down the river. -While in Alma stop at the observation platform to observe locking operations for boats and barges. -Pier 4 Café in Alma serves a great breakfast. -Roll through the hills along the Chippewa River. Enjoy some scenic views. -Ride the hills and valleys east of the Mississippi River. Enjoy the scenic streams, farms, and wooded hills. You will likely see deer and turkeys and an occasional bald eagle. -Stop at the Waumandee House for lunch. <IFRAME style="BORDER-BOTTOM: medium none; BORDER-LEFT: medium none; BORDER-TOP: medium none; BORDER-RIGHT: medium none" height=400 src="http://maps.innersource.com/external/iframe/project/3214" width=400> </IFRAME> Google Earth Overview Map Overview Click here to download tracks from another site.
