CannonTreks IV & V are group dual sport rides of an 1100 mile route in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We cover the course in about 3 ½ days with each of the first three days being about 285 miles each.

This year I am hosting two iterations of up to 19 riders each.

Just wrapped up CT IV with riders from throughout the midwest.

CT V riders check in tomorrow with riders from the midwest and Canada.

Once we wrap up the second ride, I'll get into the stories. :evil
For now here are a few pix from the 1st group that just finished up.

Whoa! That's some wet weather you had up there for CTIV! Muddy tires on the Firesteel River Tressels... I bet that made for some pucker moments! :D

Can't wait for more photos! Good luck executing CT V.

Thanks to all the guys on CTIV. A great group of guys that worked like a well oiled machine, after a little "talking to". Thanks to Cannon for the excellent route and great leadership! You're the man Colonel! I finally made it home at noon on Wednesday and back at work by 1:00. Oh boy:cry A small group of five or six diehards stayed around the club for a post ride steak dinner and beverages. I stuck to Coke while the others got into the adult beverages :freaky since I was going to hit the road early so I could get home on Tuesday. I was the first to leave, but didn't make it on the road till 8:00PM. Too much good bench racing going on and besides if you weren't there they talk about you!

I had a great time on this ride. I had it all this time around. I started out on the DRZ400 and was towards the front of the pack. On day three I switched over to the venerable XR200 since I let Sideshow take my DRZ. I couldn't stand his crying over his toasted motor from day one any longer:lol3

The XR proved up to the ride and made it 75 miles before one of the Huskys broke down and I "volunteered" to go back to camp and get the salvage truck in gear. I had a cold and wet ride back, but the XR pulled through like it was 19 years younger. I drove back and picked up the wounded Husky and PO'd ProEasy. We then drove up to find the rest of the crew in Copper Harbor. 9:30PM and no sign of them and no cell service! We headed back to Houghton and found a motel for the night, wondering where the CTIV boys were.

Next morning Proeasy fired up ADV in the lobby of the motel. Askel had made a post and was in Houghton also!!!! Proeasy had an extra bike with him too so we hooked up with the boys at breakfast in Calumet. We almost stayed there the night before:rofl Cannon and the rest of the non wuss out crew made it in too. They all loaded up after unloading breakfast and took off. Askel and I went into Houghton to help out Verock40. His DR350 was toasted. We tossed it on the trailer alongside the shiney Husky and off we went to catch up with the boys at the next gas stop. Got there and it was closed, had been for some time-----months! We hit the road and headed back to Gwinn to wait out the rest of the day.

What an adventure. A good time had by all.

Since I only had two days on two wheels I may have to do a CTIV.5 in August riding day 3 and 4 if I can get the copyright approval from Cannon:norton

Any takers? We'll see who is still standing after CTV!

The KLR jr. will be roadworthy again by then. Benron and I could both have benefited from offloading some gear into the Suburban before heading back to Gwinn.
I'll be sure and put something more capable on the back wheel for the sandy part at the end :clap
Here's Benron with a seemingly intact subframe:

Did I hear that you broke the luggage rack on the 250klr? It sure was a sight to see that poor machine try to cope with sandy whoops with a Big rider and a nights camping gear on board:eek1

Yes, but it can be fixed. I needed to fab up a better mount to the back of the subframe anyway. As it is it takes a ratchet strap and two guys pulling on it to re-attach... Not conducive to regular air filter maintenance :D

    Nice welding job there!

We are now about halfway through CT V. A little under 600 miles over the last two days. All 19 riders are still running. A few pix for now.
