1745 EST 08 January 2019, while commuting from the Pentagon to home in the HOV lane of West bound I66, I was less important than whatever the F(*&^ was on a cell phone. Me and my 02 R1150GSA (RIP) were in a low rate deceleration (with traffic) thru ~10 mph when BAM...... a lady in her Prius hit me doing north of 55 mph. Direct hit. She did not brake or slow down. I was the reason she was violently interrupted from watching her f(&%*^% cat video.

Head snapped back, hyper extended my back (all of it). Hands ripped off grips braking the brake lever. Right panier violently impacted my right ass cheek. I hit her car initially with both wrists/forearms and the small of my back then her windshield with my head and back. The impact projected me forward. I was airborne for what seemed an eternity. I distinctly remember hitting the pavement in a tuck then rolling....... until she hit me again. Deafening sound when I hit the road and again when she nailed my head with her car. I slid until I hit the Jersey barrier feet first.

She never touched her brakes, swerved, or tried to not hit me........... because she was inside the cockpit fully focused on her huge f'ing phone.

My precious GSA was knocked into the next lane to the right and hit an SUV - HARD. It was supposedly run over after that. My bike is totaled. The Prius is totaled. The VA State Troop that conducted the accident investigation said most of the damage to the Prius was from my body. He was amazed I called him the next day.

I walked out of the hospital at ~2230 (less than 5 hours later) on my own two feet.

More details and pics later. I have to go to bed. The Macallan 15 Fine Oak and Flexoril are kicking in nicely and I have a long commute in the morning ------ because I have to take the F'n bus.

This smartphone sh*t is getting out of hand on the roads. Sounds like it could have been much worse based on the fact that you walked out of the ER. Get well.

Read a book a while ago, Starship Troopers, very good (much better than the POS movie). The more I read/experience things like this the more I believe we need to quickly move towards the punishments doled out in the book. It's pretty simple really, there is only flogging (by whip), or hanging. Both public. If I was ever in your position I'd happily negate the insurance payment for a front row seat to the public flogging.

You Sir,,,,,, are a man with whom I'd like to have a beer or two. A guy I flew with back in the day would expand the role of the wood chipper to include judicial functions.

My gear saved my ass. And the rest of me. Pilot Jacket, Pilot pants, Shoei Neotec brain bucket, Gerbing heated gloves (older), and Forma Cape Horn boots. Gloves, boots, and pants are scuffed up but nothing photo-worthy. I had every piece of armor you can wear except chest armor.

Shame about the bike. I always liked the later 1150s. Hopefully you can find a suitable replacement.

Did she admit to watching a cat video or do you just hate cats ? I was rear ended by a woman who I suspect was on her phone . I just happened to know her husband , I had no serious injuries ,he bought the bike and some riding gear for me and we called it even.

But was she on her phone for real?

Some day, I'll drag one phoneaholic out of his/her car in front of everybody, I tell you.

All of us here are glad that is wasn't worse. I would recommend to you to not post any more details (anywhere) about the accident until you contact your attorney.

Regardless, you survived; which is very important, please recover properly.
As for the bus the advantage there is you're not outside close to the dastardly
    mobile phone addicts.

However her kind are everywhere. Unable to
be without their "cuddly toy" mobile telephone, she deserves nothing less than drawing, quartering
and if still breathing. hanging. And have all those surrounding the solution in progress
record the incident on their mobile telephones.

Sadly our world has invented these devices; 60% of Apple's profit is derived from telephones,
    sort tells you something eh?

Time to pour myself a Rikard's Red to confirm you are still with us.
