Is this a one-time voyage, or will the Captain make this a regular route? Sounds interesting.

The sailing includes food and overnight accommodation on a Kuna island

Since the voyages will be shorter in length than previously , I would expect to see more frequent sailing if the interest and need is there

Great news! I have been itching to do another ride down to SA. I guess I’d better check what plandemic-related land border crossing restrictions might still be in place throughout Central America.

Turbo is a pretty sketchy drug port of entry for Colombia.

Should work fine, but don't spend anytime lingering in Turbo unless you want to get robbed.

It is almost as bad as Colon, Panama

Relevant to that: My wife and I took the Stahlratte from Panama to Colombia in June 2019, and do to complications in Cartagena, we had to land in Turbo. We were transferred from the Stahlratte to a cattle boat (and the smell to go with it) in the bay, and boated on that up a river to a landing spot. The road from there to the Aduana was so muddy, numerous people in our group ended up dropping their bikes, including my wife, twice. Muddy muddy muddy. But other than that it was ok; Ludwig did not go with us, but he had paved the way with the officials. We all got out of town the same day, and other than the mud, had no issues. Aduana was very accommodating of our group.

That is great news. I always wanted to make the passage with the captain and missed it by a few years.

I will have to make contact and confirm details for a trip next summer.

Not related. These new trips don’t involve the Stahlratte

Since the voyage involves an overnight stay on an Kuna island and a maximum load of 12 bikes , it's probably not going to be a ship

The Stahlratte could carry at least 21 bikes and sleep 25

So the good captain is sailing a new boat? The Stahlratte had a foundation going for it, a lot of the folks who sailed and maintained it were volunteers doing it because of the boat's history, if the internet is to be believed. Anyone know what he's sailing now?

    From the FB page:
Captain Ludwig (Lulu) is now organizing motorcycle transports on the old route Carti/Panama to Turbo/Colombia (not with Stahlratte!).

He is working together with AARON FERNANDEZ in Panama who has the big launches to carry bilkers and bikes in a 2 day tour from Carti to Turbo.

It is a fast inshore water tour with one overnight stay on a Kuna island including food.
There are no fixed dates by now and they need to reorganize everything.
They need a minimum of 4 bikers and bikes for each run.
They can organize a max of 12 bikes and bikers for the moment.
The price will be 850usd per bike+rider.

    Please contact Ludwig directly at
    [email protected]
if you have plans for this route.
