Shouldn't be anything that money can't solve. Dunno what the dog is going to ride though.
Yeah, needs to be 3 to 4 months to make the whole thing worth while. The partner will either drive a rental car or van and the mutt will ride our patience as always. The vehicle challenges seem to be BC emission regs (assuming we buy a van in Quebec and sell in BC) and inter province insurance.
No!!! Sidecars are spawn of Santa. Sprocket (the dog) will never sit still for that and neither could I. If I want something that only works properly in one direction I’ll stick to speedway. Does anyone know if the TCT warrants a dirt bike or is most of it gravel and better suited to a Himalayan?
I rode the TCAT a few years back. From Vancouver to Ontario. I was on 990, other guys on KLR and 690.
The ideal bike would probably be something such as 500 exc.
The big bikes were nice to have when we were forced to blast some miles in sealed roads due to some unforeseen delays. One in our group went down and broke collarbone. So there was a wasted day with hospital, ambulance, finding a place to store bike etc.
It's been a while but the 450s are still going strong. I notice in this comment that you refer to the headlamp unit as being both a CCM and an MV Augusta unit. Are you able to let me know which MV unit that is? I'm looking to pick up a cheap unit and have it scanned for 3D printing so I can drop a multi LED unit in such as Baja Designs or an up and down pair. Cheers
I think the short wiring harness was MV Augusta ( or based on one) so I thought the heqdlamp might be too.
Still not sure who first used it, but I found the headlamp was used on quite a few bikes a while ago.
Here's what I posted on the GP450 Facebook group.
Part number 8000H1177, it's also available on ebay, and listed for these:
BETA 125 cc. YEARS: 2008
BETA 200 cc. YEARS: 2008
BETA 350 cc. YEARS: 2008
HUSQVARNA TE 630 cc. YEARS: 2010
HUSQVARNA SM 630 cc. YEARS: 2010
PEUGEOT 50 cc. YEARS: 2008
MOTOR HISPANIA 125 cc YEARS: 2007 - 2009 - 2010 - 2011
...it is also on the current SWM Superdual.
When Christofer Ratcliffe (the GP450 designer, now Langen Motorcycles) was at the GP450 owners gathering at Sweet Lamb in 2016 his own GP450 had a one off "headlight". If I remember correctly it looked like a flat plastic or carbon fibre sheet with two lights inset one above the other, presumably dip and main. He also had tiny led indicators.
Shame I didn't take a photo.
That's really helpful thanks. Unfortunately while it's a preferred comms platform for many Facebook is a terrible place to store or find useful information.
I'm going to try and use a current unit as a template. Then make a blank and modify it to either take an up and down pair of LEDs as you describe, or go for a Baja Designs S2 above for dipped running and a Squadron Pro for full beam. Once I have a working shape I'll try to get a black plastic holder 3D printed to fill the space and provide the overall mount but to also mount the required LED units. Ideally I'll find a way to make the units removable from the front rather than necessitating full cowl removal. I'll also be looking to use a piggy-back loom to simply plug into the existing headlamp power feed. How hard can it be?
I'm sure I read somewhere that Steve Halsall (Minkyhead) glued the spacers so that he could remove the headlight from the front
Sounds a good idea, would like to see photos/video however.
A good idea. I’ve played hunt the spacer...
