Yep my 276C failed me too, leaked around the front screen cover.

Dried it and it works again, but it don't get used much any longer.

The Samsung Note3 is the do all go to implement of navigation.

That's funny you mentioned the Note3. Im debating on the S5 Active or the Note3. I read about the S5 having a clear screen in direct sunlight. And I read the S5 had a feature to use it with gloves on. But that Note3 has that larger screen and handy note taking features.

I had to reply when I saw your note3 post. You really like it. Do ya?

I would go with the S5, it goes into "boost mode" in full sunlight, bringing the brightness to about 30% brighter than the Note 3.

Just make sure you have brightness set to auto and whatever mount is attaching it to the bike does not cover the ambient light sensor (that's one of the dots at the top of the phone).

Yep it's pretty good for most everything. If out on the road using it a lot I carry an extra battery pack device to keep the note charged up.
Having the stylus option to write an navigate the screen is pretty handy.

I bought this case from Amazon for $15,2 piece alum that bolts together with a rubber gasket and it has gorilla glass. It has fallen out of my semi, dropped in mud and left out in the rain NO PROBLEMS !!.The only problem is that it weighs as much as the phone and it's huge.

I find it very hard to believe you're getting actual gorilla glass at that price. The stuff is very expensive.

i wonder if there is enough room in there to use the lightening connector plugged into the phone ?

i'm assuming the back is aluminum or heavy plastic, and could be drilled for a ram mount too ?

amazing what you can get for a few dollars on amazon. wow

I have the Note 4 and the screen is amazing. It also has the feature to use it with gloves.

Have you used it in direct sunlight yet? It has the feature where it 'boosts' the screen brightness in direct sunlight. It is REALLY bright. The only thing with that is that some maps become washed out they are so bright.
I'm really liking the device though.

You could drill it for a RAM mount and I believe it would work great !!.However it is not quick OR easy to remove the phone from the case ( 6 LITTLE Allen screws) so you would be walking around with a giant case/phone with a RAM ball sticking out of it .

I've been told you need to make sure the screen brightness is in "auto" mode, and that your case/mount does not cover the ambient light sensor.

The colours are washed out because the Galaxy S4 auto-brightness feature activates an extra bright mode that cannot be triggered manually. Basically it sacrifices colour accuracy (washed out colours) to increase the brightness.

Thanks to that feature, the S4 is probably the only AMOLED screen that works well in direct sunlight.

    You mean the Note 4.
And I used an S3 and S4 before the Note 4. I used those in direct sunlight for many tens of thousands of miles. They were only a problem when there was glare. Adjust the RAM mount, glare gone, no issue.
And since I PREFER the saturated colors on AMOLED displays, it works well for me.
