Is it just me, or has cell service generally gone to hell around here? Messages hang up, texting photos - forget it, emails are unreliable.

Verizon's Motto "Can you hear me now?" is a frequently asked question. Because they drop the audio data frequently and on almost all calls. The motto is now a legit question.

It's never been good around the South Metro area. But seems to have gotten worse, even though I see a few new cell towers in the area. If my phone isn't connected to a wifi signal, it in and out. Sometimes I think it the wifi signals competing with the cell signal. So if I turn off the wifi, then it seems to work better, sometimes. Everybody that's on xfinity for their wifi, their box is partitioned so that other xfinity customers can use their wifi. Seems like when I'm having the most trouble,is when it's picking up that wifi, and trying to use that.

I'm in Montana so not directly applicable but I had a similar situation with Verizon outside of West Yellowstone, MT. When here in May, my phone worked okay. Came back June 1 and the cell phone coverage was crap. Called Verizon and the tech's tried some stuff via the Verizon network which didn't work. So they scheduled someone to come out to the nearest cell phone tower. About a week later, we got a call from Verizon asking us to power our phones off and then on, and the phones were back to normal. Even with that improvement, during high tourist season service degrades especially in the evening when everyone returns from YNP.

I got better cell service on a rig location north of Bill, WY, than I get in downtown Longmont. No wifi calling = no service for me.

    1st world problems.
Some people worry about how to feed their family.
People in Boulder County worry about surfing the internet.

Or running a business that depends on reliable cell service.

It’s all in your definition of “first world”, I guess.

My job requires cell service in places not known for any service. I make sure I have a booster and both AT&T and Verizon phones to reduce chances of disconnect.
I don’t have many issues. Not sure what your point is, other than perhaps you have not mitigated your potential poor service for your desired results. Good luck.

My point is passing judgement without a thorough understanding of who you’re judging is deficient on several levels.

I don’t need luck— I have WiFi calling.

    Carry on.

Where are you and what service are you using? Denver metro is spotty at best due to each company fighting it out for territory and a weird mix of protests to cell towers.

I've had just the opposite experience with Verizon. And I work over all of the state. There are very few spots I don't get really good coverage...and those are mostly in urban areas....Longmont, east Denver.

Also, with 5g being rolled out, the carriers aren't too interested in maintaining or spreading out their "old" 3 and 4g systems.

Bad Wolf I think you are right about 5g. But also you probably don't live in a 3rd world state like NM.

True but don't tell anyone! Look what the Californians are doing to our friends to the north.

I'm with VZW for now, might get an ATT sim and do a head-to-head comparison (Dual-sim phone) this winter.
Coverage is somewhat device-dependent - there's places I have service but nobody else does, and vice-versa.
