Also happens to be the birthplace of Algorithm. The word "Algorithm" is the latinised version of "Al-Khwarazm-i", ie Algorithm means "from Khwarazm". Khiva is just the contemporary name for Khwarazm.

    PS: Amazing photos...

    Hi Walter
Excellent photos!! When you showed me in Tashkent and Almaty there was many beer and noise. Beer is on the first place finite then) Now I could see all photos easy and when snow is behind a window and vodka is instead of beer))
I am going to Pamir with Artemom, Denis, Andrey (the same whom you have met all in Tashkent) and Adri from Holland in May 15.
We wish to give 15 days to Pamir. I wish to research Fanny mountains and to spend there 2-3 days. And couse I wish to meet Murghab (my childhood) after 22 years and to spend there 2-3 days (round Murghab). There is a lot of interesting and mysterious the phenomena which i remember. I hope I can find all it.
    What your plans on 2010?
Do not forget a door of our motor club always is open!

Hey Marat ... I will probably be in Almaty once or twice this year for a few more beers at Motors Bar. I will email you when I know. :johntm

I have heard about Fann Mountains from a hiker ... says they are very very beautiful. Can you get a motorcycle in there?

Say hi to Denis, Artyom and Andrei. :thumb

Thanks for photos - warm autumn and closing of a motorcycle season! Mmm...)))))
We will be glad to see you again.
Four basic gorges with road are in Funny mountains. Morguzonsky lakes, a mountaineering camp "Artuch", the international mountaineering camp the Vertical-Allaudin and lake Iskanderkul. I plan to visit all. I hope stars will smile to us and we will visit.)

This is really a wonderful place. As a photographer I enjoyed a lot the whole set of pictures and I admit I'm really envying such a trip. I wish I could go there soon and will reply more to other pictures.
I have a question about this specific picture. Could you spot the exact place (and which village is eventually the closest to that) where you shot it? Tien Shin isn't chinese territory? Thanks in advance.

That foto was taken, according to Geosetter, at N41°36'59.29" E69°58'31.29"

Tien Shan starts in China and goes into Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. It was in Uzbekistan that the foto was taken.

This is an awesome ride report, as are the Road of Bones and Bam Road. When I saw this pic last month I thought that this looked like some serious work to ride this road. I had no Idea how prophetic it would be. A couple of weeks ago I found myself riding in the North georgia mountains, riding along a narrow wet path with snow and ice on both sides. I Immediately thought of this picture. Two weeks later I did another ride in the snow and ice. It was actually a lot of fun:ricky .

I haven't posted on any of your reports but I thought it was time to say thanks.:clap :clap :clap . You, Sambor, Timolgria, metaljockey and others have done more to educate me on various parts of the world than National Geographic, the Travel Channel, or any of the mainstream media ever could. You have also changed many of my preconceptions. Several years ago I spent several days in Russia, mostly Moscow, and thought "what an awful country to ride a motorcycle" You proved me wrong. I would never have guessed that the countries in this report would have such spectacular scenery.

    Awesome stories and awesome pics:thumb
