Rode last Saturday. Went to see an old bridge and there was a brand new on sitting there right behind the Road Closed sign . Too late again. Didn't take a pic of the new bridge.

Hit a couple of these roads. There were some deep ruts in them. IMG_1384.JPG
IMG_1385.JPG If I ever get my fat ass off the bike maybe I could frame the pic correctly.

I did find this bridge. Didn't have the balls to try and cross it.

William42 made me do it! There is always a challenge to keep up with him! And so the adventure began:

    "Farting Around with Old179"

Early this year Layton said, maybe we should check out Kaveman's tracks! Interesting, I have been looking at the Southern Eye tracks. The seed was planted. Somewhere or somehow between that point and a few weeks back I made contact with Old 179. The next thing I new OU812 joined in followed by George's friend Plowhand. After a a little bouncing around people's schedules, we were able to set an approximate date; which was adjusted by weather. Now days, that is called climate change. Thus, the adventure began yesterday. After a smooth and pleasant start; like weather, Chaos soon followed. I was doing my usual follow along behind, so I can ride my way. Coming up a farm road, legal road says Old179, I see the others well ahead. So I cranked it up a bit, maybe a bit too much for me. Now I know, what a pair of TkC80's will do on slick dust coated tall grass. When you hit a hidden small angled rut at speed; you will eat dirt! Pride aside, my two day adventure turned into one!
But, it was a good time with good guys; sorry people! Plus no broken bones, just one broken bone turning into mush; so said the doctor after looking at x-rays. That work was done back in 1968. A new clutch hydraulic line and brush bar mount all will be good!

My only pic of our adventure.

Old farts having fun! Great time along that I-70 corridor of our buddy @Kaveman past knobby sections that was stitched together. 200 miles first day, 135 miles the second day. Second day mileage was low because we had ran out of our Geriatric pep meds! Great time meeting/riding with @Critic, @Layton, @OU812, & @PlowHand. It is good that the various ADVRIDER Central Forum tread site inmates can gather and enjoy their regions of riding. Previous week, @mr_10brook and I had went over into Ohio and rode with some of their inmates that first day of our 7 day adventure over there.

Unfortunately my GoPro Hero 4 start/stop button didn't work on the Wabash river sand blasting run, or the awesome creek we followed for several hundred yards, or the slippery rock creek crossing, but it did capture some of the more civilized areas. Thanks @Old 179 and @Kaveman for the great tracks. It was nice meeting new friends @Critic @Layton and @OU812 We'll have to make this an annual tradition!

What’s the story on the one lane brick road under the dirt? Where is that exactly? How long does it go for?

I rode one a couple of times in Indiana. Pretty sure Kaveman knows where the road is.

That looks like the original US 40 outside of Marshall, IL . Runs parallel to present US 40 near Marshall.

@Kaveman Ride has tracks in that area

Greg is correct, it is old US40 (as George told us). We rode it for a couple miles. I’m not sure how far it goes in total.

That is old US 40 near Casey, IL. It is a pretty long stretch with, for the most part, good surface. I thought is was pretty cool for the vintage! 1920 - 30 - 40's? Screen Shot 2021-09-03 at 5.54.12 PM.png

Skull and cross bones and hidden holes? Sounds menacing? How is it?

(Google: The abandon brick National Road in Illinois.)

1920 the state of Illinois began upgrade of the old National Road. First 17 miles were brick laid starting from the Indiana state line. The !8 foot wide road was replaced in the 50's with the current US 40. @Kaveman has some of this on his past Kaveman's Ride tracks and I took the group on a little bit more!

Tracks we used will remain private. Anyone can spend the time as I did and cobble the knobby sections together from previous Kaveman and Oil City tracks. Thanks @Kaveman for all your work that you put into this area that we had rode!

Not bad, just missing bricks in some areas . It is weeded single track where bridge symbol is show, while the rest is mostly flat between cornfield and US40.

Thanks to all that attended it was really a lot of fun!
And my guess on 1920s on the brick road I guess was close enough?

That part of the “Old rt 40” that has the skull and crossbones has several spots that have been removed like with a backhoe years ago. I’m guessing to deter most vehicles from going down it. It is rideable. Just pay close attention when you see tall grass across the road. When you do there will be a substantial dip then you are right back on the old road. If someone hit one of these at speed it’s hard telling what might happen.
