Is it worth it to make a trip up to the Sierras yet or are the trails still blocked with snow drifts and downed trees?
Im thinking to ride the Sierra and Stanislaus NFs

The Stewards of the Sierra NF have been hard at work to clear all those trees. The Whisky area pretty much done. Most trails and roads are clear on the west side of hwy 41 too. The Stewards are up there today on Miami Mountain. I have no idea about the Stanislaus NF. Wish I did though because I'd like to get up there.

We finally got to have a farewell ride for Ben aka PotentialScat. I can't remember if I posted this on adv or not, but he passed away on 3/29/19 after a nearly year long battle with Leukemia.

    Ride on brother

When I was in the area 2 weeks ago it seemed as though most forest roads were open & clear of trees/snow. Did you have a specific area in mind?

I can't really recommend any one spot as we were loaded down with all our camping gear for 6 days on the bikes. We mainly traveled on dirt forest rds, and did not do much trail riding. That said....

Beardsley lake is at 3500ft since it's down in the river canyon = HOT! :D

Hull Creek has OHV trails & a campground that looked interesting (almost due south of Beardsley lake across the 108,) but we had 4 rear flat tires the first day out when we were in that area. We were going to camp there on day 1 but didnt make it so on day 2 we just drove right by.

Slick rock 4x4 trail looks like fun (if you like rocks :D). It connects Utica Reservoir with lake alpine

Deer Valley 4x4 trail was closed at the El Dorado NF line (first 1.5 miles open)..that was 3 weeks ago though and may have been due to snow? I didn't research it when I got back.

There is also Black Springs OHV of off hwy 4 which from the sound of it would be a great ATV type area to explore

    Thanks

Some Sierra NF info I nabbed from FB.

"Saturday July 27, 2019....The following OHV Trails will be accessible.

    Brewer
    Red
    Mirror
    Strawberry
    West

Thank you for your patience in the delay of these trails being opened."

    ...and...

"Gate keeper to coyote closed until Fresno club members come out and inform Forrest service of their assessment. They welded the gate for now since it was snapped in half.

Spanish, will remain closed due to heavy rock work needed and water bars.

Swamp yet to be determined and same with dusy."

Sorry to hear the news. Ben was the first inmate on ADVrider I ever rode with. He took time to show me around the area and introduced me to the rest of you inmates. Good guy. He will be missed.

California riders your support is needed. The Stewards of the Sierra National Forest go to bat for you against those in Sacramento that keep trying to limit your riding. The Stewards go to bat for you against the whims of the National Forest that would rather close trails than open new ones or maintain the ones that already exist. The Stewards are busy clearing trails of the thousands of trees that have fallen and continue to fall this year. They are also busy planning their Membership drive event which includes GPS tracks for an enjoyable two days of riding for all rider levels and a Saturday evening dinner. If you are unable to make the event you can still contribute by following the information on their web site. Go to SOTSNF.org to sign up.

No one seems interested in a dark sky camp out maybe we can plan a good one next spring/summer. I think it would awesome. It was the only weekend with a new/no moon when I started looking in May or June.
