Looks like I missed him on his way down... Hopefully I will get a chance to meet him on his way back to Seattle?

I think we were all waiting to see what was going to happen, since you didn't seem positive that he would be here tomorrow night :dunno

I know a few were going to SImon and Lisa's gig in Mt View first

status update shows he and camogreg in Florence Oregon.:deal What are the chances he'll amke it in to SF tomorrow if they are taking the coast? If it's the coast all the way down, then I think Saturday might be more realistic? Opinions?

Even if they don't take the 1 all the way, which they should IMHO, they won't make SFO til Saturday.

I would guess Garberville area tomorrow, SFO late Sat or even Sunday.

I'm with you. Ride the coast to SF. It will be longer and slower, but that's some of the best m/c this country has to offer.

Then take off over the Sierras via Ebbots, and do Monitor Pass and fly down the east side. Weather looks clear for the forseeable future so he might be able to make the good passes before they close.

I-5 to 199 would have been the faster route, but down the Oregon Coast is the way they went (and it is a nice ride) but I hope CJ gets into better weather and puts some good miles in soon :thumb

Good miles? 250 a day is good miles if you're taking the time to take it all in.

No update yet, so I suspect they may have continued to push south?

    CJ,

I just stumbled across this thread. I've loved reading your ride reports. If you make it to Colorado and need a place to stay - let me know. I've got a garage for the bikes and a spare bedroom. Would love to get out and ride with you some.

Sounds like a long day for you today.

I just had a crazy idea. When you decide to head east across the plains, I imagine you will be on the interstate...

... any interest in trying to bag a SS1000? :deal

You could add membership in the Iron Butt Association to your souveniers of your trip!

    Just an idea!

Not to say that trying for an IBA is a bad idea, but shooting across the plains on the interstate is. Just because we don't have mountains doesn't make us boring. Wide open America is just as beautiful as the rest of America.

I say stay off the interstates as much as possible. Wherever you are in the country.

Chance of rain tonight in SF but clear through the weekend...Light flurries in Truckee! Anyone have more info on the weather. :ear

Is his proposed route now over Sierras? Maybe he needs to do a S route and therefore head further down the CA coast.

prediction for tomorrow shows sunny and a high of 45. Bridgeport is around 6000', near the route, and is calling for light freezing rain and snow tonight. As long as they don't get there too early (or late), the roads should be clear. Shady spots may be slick though.

Caltrans maintains a website with highway information at

    http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/roadinfo/

If your proposed route has chain controls, you'd probably want to head to a different route. :lol3 You can access the same info via telephone at 800.427.7623

For instance, here's the current info on State Route 108 (Sonora Pass):

    SR 108
    [CENTRAL CALIFORNIA & SIERRA NEVADA]
IS CLOSED FROM 26.4 MI EAST OF STRAWBERRY TO 5.3 MI WEST OF THE
    JCT OF US 395 /SONORA PASS/ (TUOLUMNE,MONO CO's) - DUE TO SNOW - MOTORISTS
ARE ADVISED TO USE AN ALTERNATE ROUTE

    [EASTERN SIERRA NEVADA]
IS CLOSED FROM 26.4 MI EAST OF STRAWBERRY TO 5.3 MI WEST OF THE
    JCT OF US 395 /SONORA PASS/ (TUOLUMNE,MONO CO's) - DUE TO SNOW - MOTORISTS
ARE ADVISED TO USE AN ALTERNATE ROUTE

I played around on the Caltrans website after posting the link. Here's the info on the area:

    Hwy 4 (Ebbett's Pass)
    [CENTRAL CALIFORNIA]
IS CLOSED FROM 0.5 MI EAST OF THE JCT OF SR 207 /MT REBA TURNOFF/ TO THE
JCT OF SR 89 /EBBETTS PASS/ (ALPINE CO) - DUE TO SNOW - MOTORIST ARE ADVISED TO USE AN ALTERNATE ROUTE

    Hwy 89 (Monitor)
    [CENTRAL CALIFORNIA & SIERRA NEVADA]
CHAINS OR SNOW TIRES ARE REQUIRED FROM THE MONO/ALPINE CO LINE TO THE JCT OF SR 88 (ALPINE CO)

CHAINS ARE REQUIRED ON ALL VEHICLES EXCEPT 4-WHEEL-DRIVE VEHICLES WITH SNOW TIRES ON ALL 4 WHEELS FROM PICKETT'S JCT (ALPINE CO) TO 2.7 MI SOUTH OF THE JCT OF US 50 (EL DORADO CO) /LUTHER PASS/

However, hwy 88 (Carson Pass) hwy 50, hwy 80, and hwy 395 (the north/south route along the eastern Sierra) show no travel (e.g.) chain restrictions.

The weather on the east coast is in the 70-80's and we're in a drought. I hope you guys are'nt going to show cj around your backyards so long that he doesn't get to ride the twisties here in the east where the leaves are turning and the wheather is perfect. The ride over Roan Mnt is also 6k and the tightest little twisty roads around . so give him a break on the shitty wheather and let him head east :clap
