A collection of pics from WV and areas close to my home. All day trips. My son and few folks at work like seeing my pics, so this will make it easier for them to view my rides in one location.

A few of my favorites from this year to get this thread started. I typically alternate between my DR 650 & a V7 III Carbon Dark.

I will add more details and routes in later posts.

    The DR:

I love West By God and Greenbrier County. Lived there for years before I was transferred out West.

Keep the pics coming the fall colors were always great.

West union is at the edge of where I ride on the V7. I’m near Ripley. The DR doesn’t get north of 50 or East of Spencer. I do try and get out twice a week weather permitting.

The red line is roughly the area I ride the V7 in and the Blue is for the DR. I know the paved roads pretty well in most of WV, but the map below shows where I ride now. If someone is passing through, I can give route recommendations or perhaps we can meet. I can suggest mud hole laden to easy gravel roads in the blue area or nice curvy paved roads within the red. Wednesdays and Sundays are my riding days at least thru October. Always looking for someone to ride with!

When my friends ask me what state I want to visit the most I always tell them West Virginia. They think I'm crazy.:lol3 I've never been there, but from the pictures I always see of the state, I need to get my ass down there!

The best thing is the lack of traffic. The roads are fairly good and I ride for hours at times and only see a few cars. :D :ricky

A few of my favorite dirt adventures.

    IMG_1773.JPG

The funny thing here is I didn't wreck. I high centered with a wheel in different ruts just behind the bike. I just couldn't get it out and off the high spot, so I laid the bike down and slide the front wheel over even with the front. I was completely exhausted. Then the bike was flooded, so I had to pull the tank and put in a fresh plug which took another 40 minutes. Something good to know, if you lay a DR down on its left side turn the petcock off ASAP!

Nice pictures. Thanks for sharing. Every year for the last 30 or so I get to eastern Ohio and western WV when I go to The BSA rally near Toronto Ohio. This year didn't happen. Your pictures reminded me what I missed this past August. I will be watching for more.

I like Southern Ohio too! Typically, only the V7 gets over there. Here are a couple from that area. The roads I like the most so far: West of Marietta I really like 555, 78 & 681. Lake Vesuvius is a nice park with great roads near it like 141, 775, 218 & 553. That is if you like curves. You really can't go wrong as long as you stay away from the cities. Many of the county roads are very nice too.

553 is a short road, but worth the trip up and back as you can see here:

When I stopped for a pit stop by the creek for relief...An older women actually stopped to see if I needed help. Luckily, I was about to get back on the bike, so the rest break was over. I thanked her and said I was OK. Nice folks around there.

Out of Grantsville WV, I took Russet Rd. It's not very long, but it is very scenic.

    Continuing....

As I went down my next road to Gassaway an interesting thing happened. I wish I had it on video. As I entered a long sweeping S-curve, the V7's Agostini's were producing a subdued rumble. As I entered the top of the S I noticed a church in the next curve with about 25 people holding service in the parking lot. As they heard the rumble, they all turned their heads, as I entered the curve with the church and I raised my left hand. In unison, they all in turn raised their hand and returned the gesture. It was the symmetry of the event, timing and it seemed like it happened in slow motion. The curve with the church was very pretty. I will get a picture of it sometime soon.

A little further down the road I hit a section where golden leaves were falling to the road and there was just enough sunshine through the trees to pick up the golden hues. I wish I would have stopped and tried to get a pic. Below is a later attempt that pales in comparison to what I saw.

While waiting for my turn at a one lane bridge I snapped this on the road through Rosedale.

160 miles today. Starting out at 9am with a brisk 51F and ending around 1pm with 68F. A nice ride on 47, 74, Pullman Road, 31 and then Cisco before returning to 47. I never get tired of riding in this area. The roads are so fun and the traffic almost non-existent.

    IMG_2254.JPG

Three of these KYA curves are very close together on the East end of 47.

    IMG_2255.JPG

I really like Rt 74... Most of the pavement is good just watch the shadows for pot holes.

    IMG_2270.JPG

    IMG_2283.JPG

    IMG_2285.JPG

Pullman road was pretty too. The pavement is in good shape and it is a fun ride although short.

    IMG_2287.JPG

    IMG_2289.JPG

Rt 31 was the best today tho.
