Then I went down one of the bonus loops. :nod There is a creek crossing that was too deep earlier in the year. It did look possible but too risky to try by myself. There were large rock boulders in the direct route and it was 2-3 deep.

    7-16-2021-19.jpg

Swinging wide left led to deeper water so no going that way. :scratch

    7-16-2021-21.jpg

To the right of the triangular moss covered rock it was only 1.5 foot deep, but under the water there were large angled slabs of rock that were slick as ice. I would give myself a 50/50 chance of dumping it. I have wrecked on rocks like that with almost no water on them.

    7-16-2021-22.jpg

So, I turned around in the shallow area and decided to see if I could get to the big mud hole that I turned around at last time I was up this road.

    7-16-2021-20.jpg

I made it thru this and went 100 yards further and decided to turn around as it got worse.

    7-16-2021-23.jpg

There are many SxS playgrounds along my routes. I will happily take pictures while you give them a try. :lol3

Not to mention the rainbows and unicorns. :rofl

I hope you have time on your mutton run to stop by Ripley. I owe you lunch! You could launch from here down Rt33 to the Junction. Beats Rt50 from Parkersburg to Clarksburg....

Went out to the garage and changed the new front Scorpion out for an old MT21 that has been laying under the house for 2 years. I didn't even balance it and the weaving problem is gone! I ran it up to 80mph and no weave. :clap Nothing beats the Scorpion in the gravel and mud. The other two I ran were better on the street too. Now my dilemma, buy another Scorpion or something else. :hmmmmm I actually like the front D606 better than the MT21, where most folks hate it... The MT21 has a lot of life in it, so for now I will run it.

Me too on the D606 both front and rear on the DRZ, have a trials on the rear now great traction but too much, never breaks free and sometimes it'd be better if it did.

I've still been riding, mostly daily errands and I just haven't found much to take pics of. Changes in medications have thrown me off a bit, but I'm getting that all sorted out. That with our unusual rainfall hasn't made getting back to normal easy.

We seemed to get out more during the "lockdowns"! :lol3

4 Wheel camping adventure, but I did want to share some good places to visit and some nice roads for riding. I hope to be able to use my hitch carrier on the front for carrying the DR soon.

Stayed at Pipestem for our base of exploration.

    7-16-2021-43.jpg

This is a small pull off on Rt20 between Pipestem and Hinton WV.

    7-16-2021-25.jpg

First day, down to Glen Alton VA. It is located on SR635 or Big Stoney Creek. Not many curves, but it is a beautiful drive along a rock creek to a Park with some pretty ponds and grounds. We plan to go back, bring some chairs, eat lunch and just enjoy the view on our next trip. This road meets up to Rt311 which has a load of curves! There are many things to see here. Look at Hanging Rock observatory too! It's a mile long hike or so...

The next day we did a route thru Alderson, Ronceverte and Union WV. This old mansion has what they call "ranch house" that can be rented at a reasonable price. I think we will try it out some time. This would work good for a 3 person group of riders as well since it has 3 bedrooms. It would make a nice base of operations. It is called Elmwood Estate in Union WV.

    7-16-2021-34.jpg

Directly across from the mansion is a confederate memorial for fallen soldiers.

    7-16-2021-35.jpg

After leaving Union, there are many loops that can be made on curvy roads with many sites to see. We spent an hour roaming the grounds of the Cooks Mill on Rt122.

We love the Pipestem area. We have been coming here for 30 years. Many sites to see in WV and VA.

Yep, out first camping trip or vacation together since 2019. :D No rain just a lot of overcast and grey skies at times. Took all but the first pic of the campsite with her Nikon DSLR. It is a pretty nice camera, but a bit big for the sickles.

Bill, the III looks mighty fine there and the Indian Creek covered bridge. :thumb There must be 100 bridges in the area crossing Indian Creek! :nod

I did another 208 miles today. Plan was to pick up a tag on Chapel/Gassaway Road, but after eating hot dogs at the Custard stand I missed the turn off of Rt4. I'm blaming loss of blood to the brain with a little senility thrown in. I wasn't using the GPS and thought I knew the way... Oh well, I like going thru Rosedale too and it started sprinkling on me, so I made a bee line for home.

    First stop Cedar Creek SP.

We stayed at that lower lodge at Pipestem one year. Had to leave our bike in the parking lot up top and take that cable car down to our room. My wife had a real hard time doing the cable car, too. That's a nice area, I'd like to go back there one of these days.

5 hours and 138 miles this morning. My Southern route. It needs a few tweeks, but I made it down a few new roads that were pretty tough and not passible if there is any rain within 5-6 days maybe more. This is a 50/50 route with some fun curvy paved roads and some bonus loops if you ain't skeered.. :D

I had hoped to play around in the Manila road DNR area, but the gate was locked, so I played in the creek instead.

Next up was Pennington road. Nothing that tough, just a road I like to cross with no homes on it.

    7-28-2021-18.jpg

    7-28-2021-11.jpg

A nice spot for a drink and pack of crackers...

    7-28-2021-16.jpg

Then a new road. This usually is full of about 2' water in the Spring/Fall and I don't even attempt it. I still had my doubts as I turned down it.

    7-28-2021-20.jpg

It cleared up pretty quick then turned back to groomed gravel.

Then another new road. Rising sun. It was looking quite good for the first few mile, but there were two creek crossings that had water up halfway on the side plates for a few feet. If it ran that high for a longer distance I would have probably flooded out.

    7-28-2021-21.jpg

    7-28-2021-22.jpg

    This is the road.

    7-28-2021-25.jpg

    7-28-2021-26.jpg

I went right first but a giant tree crossed the road, so I came back and went up the creek for about 100 yards.

    7-28-2021-27.jpg

    7-28-2021-29.jpg

    7-28-2021-28.jpg

The road got very rough after this with many many mud holes and short steep climbs in and out of the creek due to trees across the road in multiple spots. I went up a pretty steep hill and decided to turn around when a pine crossed the trail and I could see that no SXS had gone as far as I had up the hill. The GPS said 1.7 miles to the next turn, so there was no telling where or on whose property I was going to end up on, so back I went. Overall, a beautiful road with rock cliffs, rock bottom creeks and dense foliage.
