Thanks, it is a great place to ride either bike. Almost no traffic, roads are mostly good. There are some rough ones too tho. If I get behind someone and know I won't be able to pass, I just pull off and take a short 5 minute break then hit the curves all alone. In 5 hours yesterday, I did that twice, because I knew there was a nice section ahead. The other 4 hours and 50 minutes it was just me, the rumble and the road. If you camp, a stay at Cedar Creek SP near Glenville WV puts you near a bunch of nice roads in every direction for either bike.
Great pictures. I love riding in West Va. I live just a little east of Charlottesville Va so a day ride into West Va will be 350 + miles. I like riding up there and spending a night or two somewhere because the roads are great. Unfortunately this year I have not done any overnights there. How do you like the V7?
Thanks, I really like it for sub-60 mph roads. It's a little hot rod. It is not an Interstate type road machine at least not one I would want to do those type of miles on. I love it for roads around here. The torque is very fun. The rumble with an Agostini exhaust is great. It is a visceral machine to ride. I've had it about 6 months and after my next ride I should have 6000 miles on it. My typical rides are 150 - 250 miles. My back starts complaining after that. You can find fun roads anywhere in the state.
175 miles in 4.5 hours. 59F when I started and 68F when I arrived home. A very nice kaleidoscope of a day. Leaves were just getting past peak. In the northern section of the run the leaves were about all off the trees. I traveled Rt47, Rt74, Rt 31 and a new road Goose Creek. Very pretty. 4 hours with no traffic and it was on the best parts of the roads. My favorite pit stop just on the other side of Elizabeth. Rt 47
160 miles in around 4 hours. A nice dry overcast day with temps from 55-65F. Started with Rt 33 and Rt16 with a bypass down Nicut road to Rt 4. Then across Ivydale and Triplet and back up Rt36. No one in front of me the entire trip as I was out in the country. The leaves are almost gone and the greys and browns of winter are sitting in. I'm seeing many more river views and rock features now with the leaves being almost gone. More pics of those in future posts. I have 6000 miles on the V7 after this trip, so she is due her 6000 mile service. The parts to complete this arrived today, so it looks like some quality shed time this weekend. Nicut Road: The Nicut Ebenezer Church and rest stop. Same location as above, but a little further back.
Continued.... Ivydale Road above Ivydale and the Elk river. The phone just can't quite do it justice.
I frequently ride southern WV and occasionally up around Elkins. But it looks like i may need to start exploring more toward your part of the state.
Man, ain’t that the truth. Is the maintenance on that beautiful machine difficult in any weird ways? I’ve admired the bikes from a distance but I’ve never ridden one so I’m just curious.
No, one of the reasons I bought it is the simple maintenance. 2 valves per cylinder with threaded adjuster that need adjusted every 6000 miles after the initial check at 1,000 miles. Then the engine oil/filter, spark plugs and air filter every 6000. Tranny fluid at 1,000 then I think 37,000 . I do plan to do it more often. The final drive at around 12,000 which I plan to do sooner as well. Grease the drive shaft splines at tire changes at least that is my plan after the 2 year warranty is up. They are a simple machine and she is a HEMI!
All the roads in white are paved, but may be a little rough and I have been on all of them West of Weston. There are more that are paved, but this gives you an idea of the roads available to ride in this area. If you like curvy, hilly roads you can't go wrong here, low traffic and the roads aren't too bad especially on the wider white lines. You aren't going to find big chain steak and seafood restaurants, but you will find the typical small fast food places and small mom and pop eats. You could easily spend a week here and not hit them all. Southern Ohio in the Wayne National forest and to the East and North are very fun too. If camping, a couple days in Cedar Creek State Park near Glenville WV, a couple at North Bend SP near Harrisville WV and a couple in Mt. Vesuvius SP Ohio would make for a hell of a riding adventure.
Good to know, I like simple. What’s in the tranny fluid wise? That’s a good long time if it’s not a typo (60,000). I run 75w140 gear oil in the Harley trannies but I change it every 10,000 miles.
Thanks for the info. I rather eat at local mom and pop places when I travel. They generally have better food and can usually point you toward some nice routes. WV state parks never disappoint. I'll have to look into the parks you mentioned for next spring. Maybe we'll cross paths.
Cool thread While I have done some riding in WV its been a while and I never really explored too much off the beaten path. I need to get back there to do that. You like to ride the same kind of roads that I do and even take the same kind of pictures. I'm looking forward to following along!
I was looking at the maintenance chart this morning and I did read the transmission fluid interval wrong. It's 60,000 KM or 37,000 miles. Still too long in my estimation. The other numbers are right.
Shakedown run after the 6000 mile service. 5 hours and 152 miles today on Rt47, Rt16 and Rt18. Then a few smaller roads that criss cross between them a couple of which I have never been on. A cool start, but it reached almost 70F at the end. The color is almost gone, but I did find a few pockets left. This one hasn't got the memo...
Continued on Rt18... This is a very pretty road that cuts between Rt47 and Rt16. The area is Spruce, but the roads has different names in Basecamp and Google. A pipe bridge from the road to a rock in the creek to a rock across the creek. Mostly rocks, creeks and town views up next....
