    Carlos,

I would be glad to share some stories over the phone. I'll shoot you an email with my contact info. Thanks for the offer to ride with you. I won't have time for Yellowstone this year but I might be in your neck of the woods in November, in which case I'll surely plan to meet up. It seems like you have lots of great riding around you.

Google Maps puts the distance between Humaitá and Manaus, Brazil at 433 miles. I know there’s gas in Humaitá and probably also within 100 kms or so south of Manaus. There will likely be some other places to buy “mystery fuel” out of 55-gallon drums along the way, but why chance it?

With my new 5-gallon Giant Loop Gas Bag, two RotoPax cans plus by bike’s gas tank, I can start on BR-319 with 12.5 gallons of fuel, enough to get me 450 miles or more at the speed I’ll be traveling. When empty the Gas Bag can be easily stowed for the rest of the trip, and doesn’t take up much space.

    Let the packing begin!

Cool..! The good thing is you can roll it in a very small package when empty, the RotoPax you can not.

Great to see another report on BR319 I’ve wanted to ride that road for years now and so far have only made it to the very North end of it on the other side of the river. One of these days...
Try and make sure to stop in the opera house in Manaus. Always have the option of the boat if things look hopeless on 319 at Humantia or PV
Good luck I’ll be looking foward to the story.

That’s the plan...lugging around more Rotopax jugs was not going to happen.

I’ll try to provide as much useful intel as I can on road conditions, fuel availability, lodging, etc.

Thanks for the tip on the boat as Plan B and also about the opera house in Manaus. It’s now on my list!

    Getting the party started.

Not really much to pack, other than riding gear, since the bulk of my stuff is already in Bolivia with the bike. Just a few personal items and that’s it.

I love to prep for a long ride, it gives me that undescribable feeling that I'll be on the road soon.. i'm ready for a long one.... Hopefully soon.

Just to get it out of my system, I'll go for a short ride tomorrow morning temps have come down some here in NW Arkansas and it is pleasent to ride early in the morning. Well, I guess I should of checked first... we have 80% chance of rain in the morning.. Oh well!

I totally agree—the preparation is part of the overall enjoyment.

Enjoy your ride! I hope to get down to your part of the country later this year and have you show me some of the great roads.

I’ll try to do it justice with a good report. Likewise I’ll be looking forward to hearing about your re-entry.

Occasionally when I purchase a property in my “day job” I find some interesting things. This was one such occasion, and both timely and appropriate. I’ll be there in a few short days.

Having just finished up a beautiful family trip yesterday only to wake up before dawn today to drag myself and my gear to the airport, I found myself thinking that enjoying adventure from behind a monitor in the comfort of home sounds pretty good!
