Betsy Ann at Pulga is a nice person, but has persisted in scaring people away from there as much as she possible can. The road that goes through Pulga is a public owned County road,as is the road that turns right and goes through Pulga to the river. 30' wide public owned throughway,we have always staged there to trailride. She has claimed she would shoot people's tires out if they park anywhere near her area. This hasnt really gone over well but nobody has really wanted to get in her face. A county supervisor has talked to her.

I dunno what that will be like now that Pulga has burned up some, she has had a very rough year. It is bullshit though the way her and her friends have acted about a road they dont own,she said she was getting ripped off as soon as she moved in there,I think its BS.

Last fall I was up there and they blocked off the road with a pickup. wouldn't let me through. Threatened to call the cops on me. I told them that they needn't bother, because I damn sure was calling them! And I did. Went to the dept of public works to make damn sure that it was a public rd and it is. Public works guy said they have been a recurring problem. Won't accept mail from the county, etc.. Kind of a shame really, they have a lot of artsy stuff going on up there, parties and stuff that to me is kind of cool. Bringing the wrong kind of attention to themselves. They would like to basically own everything from Pulga to Mayaro. Not going to happen. I love it up there. Especially after a good rain. Spectacular scenery. Don't let them buffalo you. We have every right to be there.

Shes not buffaloing me any,Ive talked to supervisor Bill Connely who's district Pulga is in,by chance hes an old dirtbike guy from way back. And Doug Teter was an expert enduro guy,is supervisor up in Paradise but keeps track of dirtbike related issues and Pulga/4 Trees rd etc.

Both are aware of the problem, she has been talked to about things. All the gatherings she does up there are for profit with no permit or license, she uses parking across the bridge on hiway 70 and shuttles people in,all Illegal. Now with the campfire taking center stage its all on the back burner. No one is in Pulga usually right now but 1 guy watching the place.

She wants it all her way, unless something goes south then she wanted all of us to come up and help. Part of the problem is people get blocked from parking there,or even driving through and they dont say or do anything, supervisors and cops need to know who's doing what.

The guy who runs the hydro plant in Mayaro wanted camp creek road made private for his use only, and tries to keep a cable across it even now when he can.
He has no clue. Its fairly prevalent, people inherit property or move up from the city to buy property, the first thing they do is shut down or claim any road or dirt they they think they can get away with.

That's the thing, shes young cute friendly and intelligent when ever I stop to chat with her. And able to buy or be involved with buying a 500.000.00 old town with no job or real visible means of support, and be paying to revamp the entire place and add on substantially.
Possibly some strong feelings of entitlement there.............. She calls herself "Sheriff Betsy"..........I would guess her strong arm tactics are to keep people out while she has her various functions, and were just rubes anyway right?
I dont want to come back from trailriding to find my truck with flat tires so I havent parked on public property close to Pulga since she moved in there. Things have happened during and after the campfire where she may have to sell the place, maybe.
    ========
Right across the Pulga bridge on 70 we have Blue,Blue is a guy who inherited a small piece of land at bottom of 4 Trees rd,which is the only access to get up to top of canyon for many miles on that side, the minute he moved a trailer in he put up a gate and claimed 4 Trees rd was now shut. 4 Trees rd was build with public funds back in the 20's with much dynamiting of solid rock.

But now they cant prove 100% that a right of way was ever properly established after 80 or more years of regular public use. So he closed his short section rt away closing the whole rd and has dared anyone to stop him. As of now hes burned out and Ive heard the gate is open. People get a piece of property and they do what they please,if they can get away with it.

@Foot dragger Man this is great! I made my story a bit more pleasant than it actually was mainly because who knows who feels what about who. So when we were heading down the pavement towards Pulga town I pulled over to the right side to make room for a new 4 door jeep (white-stuffed to the brim with people) coming at us. When it got right up beside us they stopped, and asked what we were doing to which I replied going to camp creek road. Then the talk of private this & that started along with well that road is closed (which I thought had to be BS). These guys were pussies, acting as though they had some power to tell us what we can or cannot do. Whatever Gen M'rs see ya. We proceed on only to hear someone totally yelling at us to STOP! My wife denies this but I know it happened (I am a human tape recorder!)- she in her LEO voice screams back very harshly WHAT!!! (She's pretty convincing, to girls, that she is a tough fucker). I was already starting to stop, and I too was EXTREMELY agitated at this point. That chicks voice immediately changed to a submissive tone, and things went well from there. She did say the road was closed, which I still thought was BS, but she also said that she thought we could make it, and told us to have a good day. Turns out the road is probably from the counties standpoint "closed" as there were signs multiple places we went after the white wooden bridge.

@they I was fully ready to call Butte CRD myself when I got home except for all the road closed signs after the fact! In fact as memory serves every time I saw a sign I'm pretty sure I swore!

@MeefZah Betsy's not really all that bad, and in fact I would say she's nice when you get past the I own this all attitude. You just got to put her in her place, and if I am thinking correctly (your occupation) you would easily do that. If my wife didn't do it first I was going to myself.

One thing to note here: I did not realize until the "camp fire" that Pulga was actually owned by one person. I thought it was a series of properties owned by individuals much like any neighborhood so this was the thing that was pissing me off the most concerning "access" through the area (plus I was 99% certain the road was public). It wasn't until I saw Betsy on the news that I realized that she owned the whole place! I was impressed, and immediately kind of felt bad for how angry I got that day. I felt that after the fact her friends had left (white jeep people), they were just looking out for her, and I get that. Also as a side note I would have sworn that the "girl" was only mid twenties until I saw her on TV where she definitely looked her age. Anyhow I have no hard feelings toward her since she changed her tune, and was respectful (I am 100% certain my wife scared her! It was all to obvious).

Concerning the FT road. I am assuming you are talking about the trailer that is on the left hand side about 400 to 500 yards up the road(only place I have ever noticed)? I used to park on 70, and ride my small bikes over to FC to meet up with a friend who lives in Berry Creek (2004-9). I'd always have to "dodge" the dogs coming from that place. I did take my wife 2up in 2011, or 12 up that road, and was fully ready to deal with dogs but none were around. So I'm guessing you are saying the person who lived there at that time has passed, and there is a new guy in that particular place.

On another note I want to go back, and ride CC. I only ever rode that once but I see all of the pictures, and just have to get back there. I'd like to ride FT again too along with HB. The area is so vast, and so much fun. You guys are so lucky to have it right in your backyards!

Is that all she really paid??? I would have guessed 1.5M at minimum. Could of pooled money together, and made it a "dirt bike heaven". Seriously there are three totally distinct riding areas (CC, FT, HB) all within reach. Not that anyone wants the area to become Downieville #2, but the possibilities would be enormous.

I fully respect Betsy's rights as a property over see'er,her name isnt on the deed as owner but someone in her family must be the owner,or some benefactor.

And yes she is very personable and good with people, except when shes threatening them with various things to get off and stay away from public property she doesnt own anymore then I do.
There have been 2 other owners of Pulga in my time, none have had anything to say about us staging on the public road to go ride singletrack. Nor should they,we never bothered them any.

Campcreek HAS had the road closed sign up due to some crumbling areas, but nobody has appointed Sheriff Betsy as enforcer of any kind,I think her and the guy from Mayaro have sorta worked together with her myriad of "Closed" "No Trespassing" etc etc signs, and then he is said to be who has put a cable across the road at times which is easily defeated.
I know some just turn around when they see all her signs,if they didnt know any better they would think they had stumbled onto a private road.

To me,moving to Pulga with a plan of using it as a business place, and being in a panic right away to deny access to people using public property and defending it with threats of "shooting tires out" is more like a hillbilly thing to do,but shes SO nice and all nobody has wanted to really get in her face. She has left nasty notes on friend's trucks about riding through Pulga too early in the AM,as she is sleeping in and has guests. I would say she has the chutspa for sure,to do exactly what she wants.

500.000 was the price,it was a bunch of rotting crumbling old buildings, and has been fixed up,and now some of it burned, and is under threat of mudslide anytime it rains hard.
Its a little sketchy living there.

I can find maybe 250 miles of good singletrack outta that area,on both sides of canyon, its pretty fun.

4 Trees rd.....................Blue has declared he wants no one parking on hiway 70 anywhere to ride up "his" road, and a lady who lives at bottom of 4 trees also wants no one parking on hiway 70 near her for any reason. There's that wide turnout parking area there they have claimed. She has come out and left nasty notes on cars with threats of damage, and a truck got windows broken while parked there. I mean waddya do? There are only so many parking spots and it is all public owned turnout usage areas.

They simply want everyone to go away and leave the canyon to them.

    O.k. boys and girls. Let me give you the ammo you need. And to this I am serious, {because the number is one thrown out by pot smokers}
Article number 420.1 is as legal as it gets. Get it printed out and show the cops when they come. Yes tell miss Betsy Anne she will breaking the law not you.
I will cut a gate and not be convicted and she will go to jail if our paths cross.
End of story, period, don't let people bully you around. Know the law, and be persistent.

Therein lies the problem, nobody wants to leave a truck un-attended for 5 or 8 hours very near a contentious person, leaving a hidden video camera could work but tires could still be flattened and then what? She wants what she wants and most likely has most always gotten it.

I would be the only one doing such a thing, people seem to like to roll over and give up their public property rights. All scared of one girl. I would rather go up there with a cop or county supervisor and hash it out with her in some kind of civil fashion.

She may lose the whole property after actions taken by her while campcreek rd had security guards posted on it,she didnt want them there either and did something bad it seems.

Yea but it is there, laid out in front of you. I am armed and dangerous.
And as far Betsy Anne, she rubbed me the wrong way when she corrected me for saying spark in stead of ark. And from what I gathered it was her that called in the day before the Camp fire talking about ark's coming from the power lines. Then left and didn't bother sticking around to show the PG&E workers what see had seen.

footdraggers point of people being passive is an understatement. I mean you have to stay PC these days and not punch some lesbian in the face because she is an entitled child and has a rich uncle that would sue you and take my peanuts.

Any idea where a person can find out more about this? From the things you guys are saying its starting to sound as though she really is a bit nuts or just plain stupid.

I'm really bothered by the FT road access. Seems totally preposterous that it doesn't have a right of way. Unless I am mistaken thats pretty much the only road to get one to FT & HB from the 70 side.

So, so, so funny. From everything I am reading it sounds like she is more confrontational with men. I have to wonder now if my wife hadn't acted the way she did if she would have tried her tactics on me. I'm telling you when she came up to us after having been yelled back at, her attitude changed 1000%. She probably knows most guys aren't going to beat on her so she rages on, but when a more alpha female is there she has a lot of trepidation.

So it looks like the wealthy "real" owner of Pulga (her step father) passed away two weeks ago. He made his money as a class action lawsuit specialist. Hmm.

    Bucky 'Charles Selcer' Zimmerman
Zimmerman, Bucky (Charles Selcer) Charles Selcer Zimmerman, 72, passed away peacefully at his home in Scottsdale, Arizona surrounded by family and loved ones on February 24th, 2019 after a short battle with cancer. Bucky lived his life fully and shared his energy and enthusiasm with family, friends, and colleagues. For forty-seven years, Bucky was a leading litigator, in cases in Minnesota and around the country. He was acknowledged by colleagues, opponents, and courts for his legal talent and negotiation insights. In 1983, he founded Zimmerman Reed law firm, which has now grown to three offices - in Minneapolis, Phoenix, and Los Angeles - with a team of attorneys who are leading cases in many practice areas nationally. While law was his life's work, Bucky approached everything with the same enthusiasm, curiosity, and energy. He was an avid golfer and never gave up on perfecting his swing. He loved listening (and dancing) to live music, exploring the country on his motorcycle, and setting out on trips across the world with his wife, Pat. No destination was too far or too remote. Bucky was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Patricia Miles Zimmerman, his stepdaughters, Betsy and Kate Cowley, his sister Judy Rhodes (Jim), and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. Bucky was born on August 17, 1946 in Minneapolis to Rose and Harry Zimmerman. Bucky graduated from West High School, and then on to the University of Minnesota, both for his undergraduate degree and then for law school. Bucky was a talented tennis player and became a member of the Professional Tennis Association, obtaining a national ranking and winning gold and silver medals at the World Maccabiah and Pan American Maccabiah games in Israel. Bucky received many awards in his accomplished career, both as an athlete and as an attorney. In the past decade, Bucky was also a frequent lecturer in professional associations and found great joy teaching and mentoring young people entering the legal profession as an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota Law School. Bucky loved engaging in lively debates about current politics and had a youthful spirit and energy that was contagious to those around him. He never stopped learning or asking questions. He was kind, charming, and generous and always sought to live a life with integrity and honor. He was cherished by so many and will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and colleagues. Services will be held at Temple Israel in Minneapolis on Friday, March 1st at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
