Six riders from Antofagasta, Chile (Atacama desert) to the border with Argentine at Paso Sico (4,500 m above sea level) (14,000 feet).
Two nights staying at San Pedro de Atacama, good hotels & good food.
    Total days: 3
Total ridden distance: 1,400 Km (30% Tarmac, 70% Gravel)
Places visited: San Pedro, Salar de Atacama, Toconao, Socaire, Peine, Sico

Excellent trip, safe and nice places, nice views of the Atacama Desert (Dakar 2010).

    Here goes some pictures.
    Regards from Chile

    Marcos,

    Bonitas fotos.

el año que viene en noveimbre queremos hacer un viaje por esa zona.

¿Conoces el camino San Pedro de Atacama - Laguna Hedionda - Uyuni?
    Sería de gran ayuda.

    un saludo

    Carlos

    Hi Robson,
No fuel in Tolar Grande, only in San Antonio de los Cobres.
Tomorrow I´ll send you a map with distances.
After Paso Sico, are you going to San Pedro de Atacama ?
    Regards,
    Marco

    Bull shit!
We'll have a big problem with gas in that place.
I can carry 7 liters, plus 22 liters on tank, but my friends has only 15 liters.
    :shog

And we want to know Mina La Casualidad and Mina Julia after Tolar Grande.

After Paso Sico we'll go to San Pedro. :trp

    Hi Robson,
As an alternative, from Tolar Grande you can go to Paso Socompa (Chilean border), 127 km of gravel.
Then from Socompa to Peine (fuel available) and then to San Pedro de Atacama.
    Regards,
    Marco

    Marco!
I don't remember who, but someone told me that Paso Socompa is closed for vehicles, only for train is opened.
    Can it be a mistake?

    That's not correct.
It´s open for all type of vehicles:

Noroeste del país en la Provincia de Salta, comunica a la Argentina con Chile, a través del ferrocarril y terrestre, uniendo las ciudades de Salta Argentina y Antofagasta Chile. El paso Socompa a 3.876 m.s.n.m. se encuentra a poca distancia del Volcan Socompa de 6.031 m.s.n.m.
