Got some protection! 2 or 3mm thick versus 10mm thick plus double plated directly under engine plus protection for the master cylinder and suspension linkage.

Picture above I hadn't bolted the double plate to the middle yet.

Ready for a ride tomorrow with some fellow ADV'ers.

Got out on our group ride this morning.

All was well until we got to the start of our dirt section. They are closed. Desert National Wildlife Wilderness area. One small visitor center and a bunch of desert and mountains. No facilities elsewhere. A joke.

We went to Mt. Charleston instead and tried some trails. Got to multiple areas too steep for my skill level and knobby level.

Ended up off of Harris Spring Rd in the old mining area. Climbed until we could not.

Did not get a picture of @octagonpilot and his 790 ADV but they did just fine on the ride.

I did get a pic of @hardhat who also has a 701 Enduro. Took the bikes for a bath and the place was packed.

    IMG_20200516_105309.jpg

Have to organize another ride but we are getting warm. I'll be reaching out for longer distances and new terrain to explore.

Looking forward to Death Valley season in the cooler months.

Negative. I'll add it to my list though.

I need to send my paperwork off for the FXDR SS1000. Totally forgot about that until your post!

When I was planning that route I was heavily considering going to Tahoe or Pyramid Lake and looping back.

    For the scratched up muffler?

If so, Salt Lake City HD.

They go by Shop Utah Harley for their online sales.

Putting a call in to corporate tomorrow.

After raising holy hell, the dealership is getting me a new muffler. Looks like I'll be down about a month before I receive it.

They said it was drop shipped from Harley all screwed up like that. I hope another doesn't arrive screwed up.

I'm ready to get that bike on the road. Still haven't heard a damn thing from Corbin yet about the seat I ordered. It has been almost 3 weeks.

Looks like crap customer service is everywhere.

Time to take the Husky out for more break in miles.

I have been ordering parts for old 911 from 3 different vendors as well as getting boots repaired from Bates in Long Beach. Every order has been a nightmare either the order desk people are working from home and don’t have the ability to see where the order is in their warehouse before it ships OR I had a package coming USPS from Ohio and it sat for 20 days in hub there. The Porsche suppliers say they are just as busy as guys are sitting home buying stuff!

50 miles left until 600 mile service is required so I'm out on a chill ride to see some stuff I've been wanting to explore but for one reason or another hasn't been fit to the schedule.

I am loving this bike! What an all around machine!

Only qualms are the seat(have one on the way) and I am getting buzzing in the bars at highway speed. Hopefully a tire change will fix that. Going to put some Dunlop Missions on sooner than later.

After that last little out and back I continued south to Mesquite Valley Rd which is in CA. Some mines out in the mountains have always caught my attention. Same as the spot in the last post, never budgeted any time to see the area.

    IMG_20200520_172348.jpg

Look in the distance and you can see a sizable talc mine. It was closed off so I couldn't reach it.

Before that I was cruising up into the mountains toward an old silver mine but I didn't bring any provisions. This was supposed to be a quick cruise to get to my 600 miles. Blew through that.

The plan was to ride about 100 miles but I ended up at 177. Oops!

Towards the silver mine this was left in the road:

    PANO_20200520_162956.vr.jpg

What a find! Later I found the muffler or air filter but no picture.

Not too long after this was the climb up a canyon to the silver mine. I didn't make it all the way up as it was getting steep and was becoming work. Wasn't planning on riding that hard and I'd already downed my one and only beverage.

I'll definitely come back here to see what's up.

    IMG_20200520_163648.jpg

After reaching a very well graded road, instead of heading back towards pavement of course I had to see where it went. It paid off:

    IMG_20200520_174607.jpg

From the same spot I could see yet another mine: Beck Mine.

    IMG_20200520_174323.jpg

I rode up to it too but it turned out to be active with folks there so I turned around and began the ride back home.

Saw many more sites that I'll have to come back out to see.

This bike rocks. Shifting is already getting much better. If you are looking for something in this class...

I love the 701, but my inner cheapskate (which is weird, cuz I’m not a cheapskate at all) says nope. I don’t need the power, or fanciness. If I was goin back to a big bore thumper, I’d be going straight to Suzuki for a dr650, but I already went down that path once, like a dumbass (I am the villageidiot after all) I sold it when I needed to jump up inventory.

I still may end up on a dr650, but it will be in street trim/semi SM.

no doubt the 701 is a killer mount though.

Amazing territory you have to explore. Are you using any kind of spot locator device?
Is this a mine? Were you able to get to it? Very intriguing!
