METRO SCOOTER IS HOSTING ONCE AGAIN!

It's hard to believe the Alley Shop closed it's doors, but we didn't want this yearly gathering to disappear. So we found an awesome new host in Metro Scooter, to gather all of the two wheel hooligans and keep this Cincinnati tradition alive!

This is a FREE gathering of motorcycles, scooters, coffee & donuts that has been an annual ritual/tradition since the late 80's, on the morning of the Devil's Staircase Hillclimb out in Oregonia, OH https://www.facebook.com/events/974512609415529/

Let's ride 'em don't hide 'em to The Alley Meet @ Metro!

Awesome! Scooters rule the roads in Athens for sure. Even the police roll around two up on scooters with sub machine guns strapped to their backs.

Yeah, big bikes would do fine. A few bald eagle nest to check out along the way as well.

I’m looking to make some bike decisions based on what routes are nearby (I’m out of Dayton).

In the 1-2 hour range, whats out there? How technical is it?

Rightly so, everyone says to consider what you’re going to take your bike on before buying. Makes me realize I don’t even know what’s around here.

I'm not too familiar with the Dayton area, but SE Indy offers great gravel and dual sport routes between Aurora and Madison... NKY has great paved twisty roads... my favorites are 10, 22 and 165.
get Stelvio, V Strom, Versys or other Comfy ADV bike and do it all

I live in Beavercreek, and it's 1-2 hours just to get to any kind of adventure.

When I look at posts on this page I tend to see smaller bikes not large ADVs though.

    Am I missing something?

I’m fine with the 1-2 hr of travel. Once there, what are you doing? What kind of riding?

The riding can vary from easy gravel State Forest roads of Tar Hollow or Shawnee to some pretty technical non maintained roads of Vinton co. area. Slade , Ky isn't too far either. Not sure of what is available in southern Indiana. As far as bike selection, I think living in the Dayton area you're going to want something with enough road manners that the ride to and from isn't miserable. The little bikes are sure a whole lot funner and easier once you get there though.

That's really the kick of it. There is no great single specific type of riding super close to Dayton unless you want to bar hop on a Harley. But, within a couple hours, it's all out there. Twisty smooth street riding? Plenty of it to justify a sport bike. Easy gravel backroads? Yep, plenty. Bring your big adv. bike. Gravel on down to fire trails? Sure, bring a big dual sport. Want to get dirty on single track while connecting trails on the road? Grab the small bore, barely street legal dual sport and have at it. Just want to trailer in, and do full off road type riding? It's out there too.
I guess that's why when I was still fully in to riding, my garage always had more than a few bikes in it. I'm thinking maybe next year, I might buy a bike again. It will most likely be a small dual sport more for the fact that my kids have both mentioned wanting to ride again now that they have grown up, and it would be a good starter bike and something i could ride as well. If either of them really want to ride, and I need to add a second, I'll go back with something like a DR650 again. Suits my riding the best.

Well that makes me feel better. I had a KLR and just didn’t love it. Felt too heavy and I wouldn’t feel comfortable taking off road as much as I want too.

I decided to pick up a DR350. Should be the right dual sport size for my comfort level, while still being tolerable to drive somewhere.

So, where’s the best spots around for a DR350? Any suggestions for the gravel/ fire roads and single track?
