and as quickly as snow hat came, it went away

    sunny and 77ish down here

when this shelter in place/stay at home order is done & gate open I am going to start doing “beach to peak” rides.

Newport peninsula-> auto ferry -> Jamboree -> Santiago. ~33 miles of pavement

this sucky forest always finds a reason to be closed from months to years at a time (rain, fire, etc.)

never thought that the reason woud be a virus and/or crowds during a stay-at-home order

the OC sheriff was yelling at some kids parked at Trabuco Creek road and there are tons of "no through traffic...residents only...gate closed" homemade signs down silverado canyon road

Where is this located? I'm in Lake Elsinore, just got my bike repaired from a theft recovery and looking to social distance on my DR. Anyone else up for a ride later this week?

I am open to suggestions as it is not a formal ride. I just heard about a running group that does once a year using running/bike paths from Crystal Cove (with chase crew) and thought I’d try it on a dual sport. I wanted to try a couple routes to either skip freeway or add gas stops along the way then start inviting others.

Saw groups of 3-4 jeeps/trucks driving up at a time with camping gear...bmw/infinities trying to zip on silverado canyon past the gate...ugh...more traffic than I would have expected on Tuesday after memorial day weekend. "there's a jeep around every corner..."

    dry as F

the rain a week or 2 ago didn't do much

still saw a couple spray painted signs on silverado canyon that says "gate closed" and "no through traffic"...presuming those were leftover signs made by residents when this all started

    cafe open

cook's is also open for patio dining

another reason to hate Trabuco Creek road

    it's now paved

    poorly

kinda looks like they just laid some asphalt directly on top of the hardpack dirt

they also barricaded up the middle area to keep 4x4 off roaders out

meanwhile, I found a route for a "sea to the sky" ride from the ocean to the peak: start in Laguna Beach. They have two designated motorcycle spots which should generally be open most of the time.

    Route will be:
-Meet Laguna Beach on at 396 cliff drive -> PCH -> 133 -> El Toro Road -> Santiago Canyon -> Silverado Canyon -> Peak

    Should take 90-120 mins ish?
Fuel Range: 55 miles from the beach to the peak; then budget another 26 miles if you need to get to the nearest gas station in OC

Really not interested in this ride unless you are bringing healthy snacks. Date and time?
