When you get a phone again, you might want to consider loading maps from the website maps.me. It's free, and once you download maps they live in your phone, so you don't need service to use them. They're searchable and can be enlarged with a swipe. I use them a lot in Europe.
better to have regrets for things you did... than regrets for things you didn't... you don't know when you will be this way again
I would ideally like to take all the time I need / want, but I would really like to be out in Bellingham in a month or so, and at the rate I'm going right now, it would take me more than two to get there if I followed the route I originally planned. So I either need to shorten my route, or ride more miles per day. I'm guessing it's going to end up being the first option... I feel like it should be easy to ride 250 to 300 miles a day, but I'm kind of struggling with it.
1. we assume the fan is running? 2. quick google search for the thermostat sticking will tell you how to check... 3 1980 honda civic uses the same thermostat and it is cheaper from any auto parts store.. good luck
It's just some o rings, this super nice guy names Nick saw me working on my bike and invited me to come over to his shop, and we're going to the hardware store to get o rings in a minute.
Good news, every time I start to forget how amazing people can be, a story like this comes along. Best of luck and safe travels.
Just another chapter in the story dude... better (almost) than pictures of the food they eat at every stop on their rides... there must be 1000 pictures posted of road side burritos in these albums... I'd rather see the O ring that leaked :)
Awesome trip so far, Jesse! Already filled with many great adventures and people with many more miles still to go. Enjoy!
Take tour time and enjoy yourself. 300 miles per day is big miles if you have any plans on enjoying the sights as you go. Try to stay malleable man. Being rigid on a trip like this is going to suck the joy right out of it. If anything, you will make up some time through Ok and Tx but even if you don't , try not to get overwhelmed by thoughts of the finish line. Just take a breath and enjoy where you're at. Have fun man. Definitely subbed to this one!
Starting the day from just north of the Dragon. The plan for the day is to make it to Russellville, AL, but I wouldn't be terribly surprised if I didn't make it that far. If anyone is close to my route between here and there and would like to meet up or ride with me for a bit, let me know!
I'm sleeping behind a church in Guntersville, Alabama tonight. Tomorrow I'm going to head down to the Ave Maria Grotto in Cullman, then up to Memphis. I'll be staying with @ponytl there, and hopefully the next few days of the report will go up then.
you have my phone number, call or text... you have my address, I have a loft condo ready for you... it's empty but has 3 full baths and a kitchen and I have a bed from a model unit we'll toss in so you will have a private place with a/c and wifi anyway...
other inmates are more qualified than me... but maybe someone could chime in with routes out of Memphis that head west for Jesse looks like Storm Harvey is tracking towards Memphis (projecting 5 inches of rain in this area) looks like thur/fri I'm not sure how the storm is tracking and I do not know his planned route... if he heads north west from here or if he heads just west... towards MO. or towards little rock.. BTW my place is within sight of the I-40 Mississippi River bridge that goes to Arkansas so he has easy access to routes that track I-40 or I-55 checking the national weather web site... looks like the storm is tracking north east... so it might even be clear heading west Ark. to OK
I'm no expert on weather or the local highways, but I'll chime in. According to Jesse's overall planned route, he'll be leaving Memphis to the north then turning west / northwest across Arkansas. Google Map link for Wednesday's route. If you click on this Weather.com link and pan down to the radar screen, you can see that moisture is moving into Memphis Wednesday. (Use the left / right arrows below the screen to move the radar screen through the days.) Assuming he leaves Memphis tomorrow and rides about 275 miles, it looks like Jesse will be on the outskirts of the moisture as he moves across Arkansas, but runs the possibility of hitting some rain. - Newport, AR is about 1/4 the way along his Wednesday route and shows a 50% chance or rain with PM thunderstorms - Mountain View, AR is about mid-way along his route and shows a 20% chance of rain and mostly cloudy. - Witt Springs, AR is about 3/4 the way along his route and shows a 20% chance of rain and mostly cloudy. - Looks like he'll end up in the Ozark Nat'l Forest, which calls for a slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. I hope this helps. Rick
Rick, thank you! That's very helpful. I took a wrong turn in Western Alabama and didn't realize it for like 20 miles, so I'm actually going to have a much shorter day than I thought... I was going to go way south through Mississippi, but instead I'm just taking Route 72 across to Memphis. I don't really mind, as it's pretty hot and Alabama hasn't been doing much for me (no offense Alabamians, to each their own).
