This might be old news but it's approriate for this thread.

Dillon was telling me that the cops were checking for State Land Permits at the Coke Ovens recently. His friend received a warning.

Did something change ? you didn't need a BLM permit if you have an OHV sticker (to ride) or did those theiving buggers change it to require both?

    Mornin' Buddy,

Don't know. I wasn't aware that the OHV sticker worked as a BLM permit. Supposedly you also don't need a permit if you are "actively" hunting. Whatever that means.

My understanding was the OHV sticker covered the bike and riders while riding. It does not cover a tow vehicle parked on BLM land or cover you off the bike camping. Stopping admire the ovens or to eat lunch could be a grey area. It would not suprise me if it gets changed to boost BLM permit sales..

I found this on the AZ Game and Fish site:

Can I operate on State Trust Land?
    • An OHV meeting the 1,800-pound or less requirement and displaying the OHV Decal may cross State Trust Land only on designated or open existing roads and trails. Do not enter closed areas.
    • Operation of support vehicles (RV, truck, trailer, etc.) requires a recreational permit.
    • Any other recreational purposes (picnics, camping, etc.) require the purchase of the recreation permit from the Arizona State Land Department.

Guess we'll have to eat our sammiches while we're moving. Is crashing a recreational purpose?

What about mechanical problems that leave you stranded so you *have* to camp? :dunno

Crashing is within your OHV sticker as long as you A. Land on & remain on the designated trail & B. Get up in a timely fashion with minimal whining.

Crashing off the trail may result in additional fines/penalties.

    I also discovered:
Apparently Javelina's have the right of way & severe penalties may be impossed for failing to yeild said right of way...
