Does anyone have any gps maps of the Willow Creek trail system near Walden, Co?
I don't know about that one and don't have a map. But I have had a lot of luck the past few years downloading pdf map files of local trail systems.
It turns out many of them have geospatial info, which is a fancy name for having lat/long information embedded in them.
You can directly load thes pdf files into the smart phone app Avenza and use that for navigation.
Or you can convert them to a kmz file using the program MAPC2MAPCNET.
Then you can use Garmin Basecamp to either load the files directly into gps units like the Montana as Custom maps or
manually create track files of the trails you want.
Or you might get lucky and someone will upload gps tracks of all the trails in that area.
You might also look for existing tracks on GPSXchange.com and dualsportmaps.com.
If you get a pdf file of the trails that does not have lat/long info, you can use Google Earth and other apps like Locus the create a georeferenced kmz file. I find this process very tedious.
Thanks, I was able to get it to work. Had a great time out there!
