Just like Tommy Tycho at the Tracadero in Sydney - Plenty of Ballroom left
As far as I can see everyone on this thread is taking biosecurity very seriously so not sure where the previous comment was directed....... anyhoo....further to previous suggestion...
@Sfcootz, If you are not too fussy about your camping gear then you can kit yourself out very inexpensively when you get here. Exhibit A https://www.thewarehouse.co.nz/c/sports-outdoors/camping .... in a moment or two there'll be a few people along to say this is all low quality crap and it wont last 2 nights etc, and they are mostly right but the fact is you're coming in summer, you wont need that much and if anything does fail, then you just walk into the next of the 92 stores this business has in NZ and they will replace it no questions asked (unless to see a receipt). I bought enough to go motocamping on my drz 250 (plus an air mattress from somewhere else) for less than NZ$450. (incidentally the airbed did fail on third use and it was immediately replaced in the store, the only drama so far). Yes there is lighter gear but if you are on Red then that's not really going to be a big issue. Over to you obviously.
And by the way its a good idea to have your on-bound plane ticket in hand before you check in for the flight here. Long Story.
Some typical scenes to whet your appetite..cos this thread needs more photos!!!
Hey, I get riding nz in the morning but what do you guys do come lunch time? You got a road long enough to spend a whole day on?
Can't say I'm a fan of any off-brand stuff stocked by the Red Sheds.
Torpedo7 is great for gear at good prices, from cheap brands through to top-shelf. Best time to shop is when they have sales, which is all the time. Brings the prices down near Red Shed levels, but the quality of the goods is much higher.
Also, we don't have ebay here, instead a local variant: TradeMe. Some real bargains to be had, like this: https://www.trademe.co.nz/sports/camping-outdoors/tents/1-2-person-tents/listing-1678756103.htm. Many of us would be happy to receive/collect goods before your arrival to make everything go smoothly; we're a friendly bunch.
Some typical 5-star Kiwi accommodations:
And our trains are pretty good, too:
Haven't you seen all the pictures of food and beer???
There you go, didn't take long!!
Torpedo7 also good and there are plenty of camping stores to suit your tastes. Trademe can be cheap but will take time, unless we buy it for you, as you cannot use Trademe from overseas. Plus you cannot return it if you buy a lemon. Lots of options though!
Size isn't everything you know.....we just have roads interesting enough to spend all day on, with bends and hills and trees and stuff like that. Oh and proper mountains to look at while you're riding.
Compliments of me ol' mate Klaus..
Or, Pat Puppies
I don't know if it has been mentioned or not, but make sure you pack for all seasons, it can be extremely cold in one place and extremely hot 20ks away, especially in the high Country of Victoria and NSW and as you are from California you know how cold it can get in the desert.
But more importantly have fun you will love NZ and OZ, but if you don't make it here, don't worry it's a good excuse to return
Ok... now you are going the wrong direction... To survive down under, believe nothing and nobody... especially if they are ADV members...
If you head over this way happy to show you around. Have a self contained unit out the back. Took @taranaki for a trip through Coffins Bay National Park. Good way to do lots of sand in a 4wd.
Worth it. A day's drive from Adelaide. Magnificent shoreline, kangas, emus, great whites. @Knackers - prince of a guy.
Cats, Cootz, that's what you really have to look out for in South Australia.......
Plenty of room with us
Thanks very much mates.
@taranaki stuffed it for ya Cootz. Bludger touched every bastard up, had a great free holiday on ADV Aus largesse. Went to SE Asia and we never heard from him again, he promised me a ladyboy whatever that is.
40 days Oz - left in February and I'm still moping around, inconsolable
I'm in Whakatane and happy to help out. Just let me know.
You might have to teach the 'murican how to pronounce that....
