Sorry, I clicked on the wrong button :baldy

It paired down pretty good for me and still looked OK in GE, I used it when I did the screen capture in the other post.

Check out the version of Mapsource you are running - look at the stickied threads and mine on opening gpx files over in the main forum.

Wow---glad people are really going to get to use all the GPS data I have for Mexico---the maps are so bad in Mexcio. I know there is other tracks on there that aren't mine---but the trip me and a friend did in 2004 is on there----those tracks follow the exact same route we took. Very briefly--we went in at Presidio Texas, took the long mountainous route South then West and ended up in Batopilas---then went straight up the mountain and went West thru an area that most people won't go because of fear of the drug people. But with this file you can navigate thru there without any fear of getting lost. Getting lost is where you could get into trouble and end up somewhere you don't want to be. You'll have to cross the Urique river--and it can be impassable---on to Urique--North to Ceriacahui, Temoris and then to the lovely town of Chiapas where again you have to cross a river. There is a suspension walking bridge that some have rode over on their bikes. I don't know how they did it as it is so hard to get on it and it is narrow. Then straight up the mountain again for hours on very difficult mountain switch backs ending up in Allamos-----heck go to my website and read the story--that would be much better than me telling it here.

Very nice. Can you get close in, like 1:24,000 close?

I like the idea of map notes being shown. 'Turn up the hill, stay left, big-ass rocks, cool bluff above, cold cerveza, etc'

Have your detailed map and just use GPS to locate yourself.

Hit the link, then magnify...Your browser probably shrinks it down.. You can d/l and save it. Not so close that you can see detail though. Wonder why theres no good ariel photography of the region? Could it hurt the economy?:jose

This is about as good as it gets. Google Earth over 'a life in the canyon'

Save it as a GPX file in mapsource and then open it in GA.

Those NASA photos are much clearer than GA. Where'd you get them Ant?

There's a outfit over in Mebane or Burlington (close to there, anyway) that's a major supplier of international maps. They have Mex topos...and other cool stuff...least they did a few years ago when I talked to them.

Sounds like a run for your new Husky. :D

In Mapsource ver 6.9.1 you can go into the "View" menu and click on "View in Google Earth". Your track will come up in GE with no conversion required on your part.

In a couple of days I'll be posting a series of 500 point tracks in a single file that will load into your GPS here:

    http://gpsexchange.dyndns.org

These tracks go pretty much the same places Mark did but were recorded in 2005. Some of the waypoints are from his data.

I think I've had my head up my butt----after looking at the Mexico files of mine that were posted--those weren't even my track logs of my trip (I uploaded the wrong file)---although they still would be handy to have of course. Those tracks are similar to mine but didn't finish the whole trip------this file does. The tracks are dated as to the actual day recorded. I sent this to R-Dubb and he was going to work on it--but I think it's OK now. This will guide you on thru Chiapas and thru the Chiapas river which was a major highlight of my trip.
