Yeah, this one is weird. He never responded to my email, then bumped the price.
So silly question but what does everyone here use as a strategy for weeding out potential scammers vs just the inept crails list seller?
Using a different email than your primary is pretty simple/free, but in terms of a phone# ?
I had thought of using Google voice for sending messages / phone number but it doesn't support pictures?
Last though was to just get a cheap tracfone or something but that costs money, and I'd rather do this for $0 if possible.
Ask for their phone number so you can talk to the seller. If they refuse, then pass.
I don't do anything. If it turns out to be a scammer my spam blocker seems to intercept about 99% of that junk. So no big deal. As for my phone, I never answer unknown/blocked numbers anyway. If the scammer has the balls to leave a message I just block the number.
This has gone from $12,500, to $9,800, now down to $7995 over the course of a few months.
And it's available for parties!
I didn't know lightened wrist pins were such a BIG performance improvement.
He might have $8000 in it but it's not worth that. Here's a warning. Don't put more into a bike that you can personally enjoy. Adding a bunch of first level styling and performance up grades seldom improves the price you can get.
Now on the plus side. Airheads sell pretty hot and fast around here so he may get something for it. It does look clean.
Nothing says "Cafe Racer" like a rear luggage rack, LOL!
That's for the party supplies!
And plastic zip-ties to hold the torn hand-grips together, in matching "Dover White", of course.....!
Haha, wow. Hadn't noticed the zip ties.
All joking aside, I think it's a great looking bike. I can't say I've seen any other Dover White "S" bikes, and I really like the combo. Ditch that hideous windshield for a black tinted one and I'd proudly pass Harley's on it. The price is still a bit high for what it is though. He's getting close though.
Good deals are still out there:
1971 BMW R60/5 - $1750 (ithaca)
But I would beat him up for another $250 just as punishment for that color.
Sky high on the price. Shave about $4000 off, and he'll be closer to reality. Wait, is this a MAX bike? Then it's under-priced. hahahahah
I've seen this bike in person, and the seller (Dan at Country Rode BMW) is great airhead guy. He helped us out last fall when Olga's rotor crapped out.
1976 BMW R90 slash 6 - $5000 (Rochester)
Interesting, guess I need to recalibrate my /6 price gauge. I do agree that he's high, but I wouldn't have thought by more than 1-2k. What do I know though, I spend 99% of my time shopping for /2s and anything 1980 and up. I don't tend to gravitate towards the one's in the middle, haha.
BMW R60/5 - $2950 (Pikesville)
OK - last one for today. This is the one I would jump on, if it were priced like the one in Ithaca!
1978 BMW R100 - $3695
Good. Very good, Nick.
I kinda disapprove of NON clone S clones. I think I should change the rules.
There is only ONE tank that goes with an S fairing.
There is only ONE seat, with ONE cowl.
Very sorry, but NO back rests.
I WILL ALLOW Bing carbs.
And you MUST have 2 shocks in the rear. Mono shocks need not apply.(unless your name is Henry)
I am sorry if this upsets anyone, but these ARE the new rules. Anything ELSE will be violently frowned upon.
But dammit I do love Dover White. That bloody yellow /5 should be Dover White. With a toaster tank. Chrome or no chrome. I just love the shape.
Yeah, I sent that to the guy I bought my /7 from. At the time (March 2016), he was selling to fund a nice /5 project.
Who am I kidding. I just want an excuse to ferry an airhead to northern Michigan.
Pics or it didn't happen! (don't hurt yourself...)
