The airhead he's referring to is for himself, being such an airhead to not even realize any of the BMW motorcycle lingo. Anyone who knows anything about BMW motorcycles knows this is the "flying brick", which he does refer to. Restore it? Looks like it just needs a seat. Already has the high end Ohlins rear shock. 70K miles on this bike is nothing, as long as the engine has been properly maintained.

Also an airhead for thinking its a rare bike. A good bike yes, it'll run at 100+ all day any day for easily 200,000+ miles with basic regular maintenance. Rare? No way, especially in California. The only rare thing about may be its the last 1000cc brick with the 3-spoke wheels. After that BMW went to the K1100.

"... it's hard to find so that's probably the reason it's rare " ...???, may be...

"I’m flexible but I also plan on restoring it, please understand it’s a rare bike but please make offer"... Mmmmm OK. Got it.

All these ads that say “must see”. I gotta tell ya, they are wrong. Most of us have better things to do than travel the country looking around at vehicles just because some seller says we gotta see it.

If I see that in some ad, I never take time off to go look at it. It’s just not a marvel. And I like bikes and stuff.

And then, there’s those idiots who don’t know how to turn a picture... probably do not know how to wrench either. Discounts their credibility right off the bat.

This one is probably only semi-dumbass. Nice enough little bike but probably twice the ask it should be, and not perfect for the price and it needs work, and why is it the only thing in the garage parked on (suspiciously clean) cardboard? And the Wikipedia text in the description, "[citation needed]" and "[verification needed]".

    1983 Honda Nighthawk 550cc - $3500 (Glen Allen)

    1983 honda nighthawk 550

    condition: excellent
    fuel: gas
    odometer: 8167
    paint color: black
    title status: clean
    transmission: manual

Has only 8,167 miles! Needs some cosmetic repairs, but have the parts to fix them. New battery.

The Honda Nighthawk CB550SC is a four-cylinder motorcycle manufactured by Honda in the United States in 1983; one other version was sold in Canada in 1984. It had a six-speed manual transmission (sixth was 'overdrive'), shaft drive, single front disc and rear drum brakes, side and center stands, and seating for two, with a "grab bar" mounted at the rear of the passenger seat.

The 550sc was the first 550 Honda offered with a dual over head cam. It actually used the same camshaft as the slightly larger CB650 nighthawk. The engine was very low maintenance with hydraulic self-adjusting valves.[verification needed]

The power was rated @ 75 horsepower and roughly 36 foot pounds of torque.[citation needed] Fuel economy was 41 MPG on average.[citation needed] It would cover a quarter mile in 12.67 seconds @ @102 MPH.[verification needed] Though there have been various claims about the horsepower in magazines the Honda specifications in their Official American Honda Service Manual rates the HP at 64 at 9500 rpm with a torque of 36.5 lb.-ft. at 8000 rpm.

    Obvious cut-n-paste from Wikipedia.

Nice bike (I owned one briefly) but the price is redonkulus.

Sadly, some idjit will likely buy it for his asking price then turn it into a "bad azz bobber" and double the price.

It astonishes me how many people will price an item like a motorcycle without looking at what else you could buy for their asking price.

$3500 for a 37 year old bike is just flat out stoopid when there are similar bikes less than a decade old that can be had for the same or less (equivalent bikes would be the likes of a DL-650, SV-650, Vulcan 500, Ninja 500, air-cooled Bonneville, etc.) There are even high-mileage BMW's or supersport bikes in running condition that can be found in that price range.

Granted the Nighthawk had some cool features for its day - 6 speed transmission, shaft drive, cast wheels - but when all is said and done, it's still 37 years old with all that implies (dried out rubber parts, carburetors likely in need of attention, potential electrical problems that bikes of this era were prone to, etc.) And the low mileage really isn't as much of a selling point as the seller seems to think. If anything, it tells me the bike has likely sat in the garage for a decade or more and from personal experience I know that often leads to nagging intermittent problems that can be a major frustration to deal with.

He wants to trade and says he has 3500 in parts in it but that might not mean dollars.
