I hit a deer 2 years ago now, going 85 miles per hour and took its head clean off. I sliced through it with my brake lever, did not go down and walked away without a scratch. The bike had $7000 damage, but I rode it from western Colorado all the way back to Dallas.

Great name, DeerSplitter. Was the $7000 damage all cosmetic? At least you had the pictures for the insurance adjuster.

Bent handlebars and side smashed so technically yes. Had a $300 bar bill that night and thankful to be alive.

Birds of a feather!!!! I literally heard voices in my head as I fought for control of the MF bike. My brother in law was behind me and had just shut the go pro off. I have not personally met anyone yet that has hit one which makes me feel better about the odds of it happening again, as I had my license for only 4 months when it happened. Glad you are OK as there are lots of stories of people not making it.

The deer hit me broadside at the front fork and I lowsided, if I would have hit it head on it might have been a different outcome.
First deer strike in 46yrs. Of riding.... lots of close calls but this one got me!

ALT RIDER crash bars were worth every penny!
The deer hit me a little before where this pic was taken and the bike slid on the road to. Where you see it in the distance.

Titlerider - Handlebars and crash bars were bent, two dents in tank, lights busted, and fairing busted. A few electronics buttons flew off. Definitely could have been worse.

Doesn't bother me at all. I'm full ATTGATT leathers top to bottom year round, so wearing the HELITE Turtle vest on top makes absolutely no difference to me. There's ample airflow through the front.
The kidney belt I wear makes my lower back sweat, but it does that regardless.
I'm not sure what your point is? You seem to be suggesting an 'issue' but you don't actually offer any personal insights nor experience?

Damn, all these stories and photos bring back memories to this past spring. Eddie, your photos look just like mine. I posted them up earlier in this thread somewhere. I just threw out my pants and jacket. Was hoping the MSF class might want them for demo purposes but that never happened.
    Deer splitter, WOW!!!!!:yikes

I lucked up recently. Was riding along Shelby Forrest near Memphis at about 30MPH. Saw a large doe hauling ass out of the corner of my eye. I braced for impact about time she started to jump. She actually managed to clear me by about an inch. My buddy that was riding behind me said that she just missed my helmet. This was one of those instances where I wish that I was running my gopro.

Three for me - down once with the same lateral hit to the front wheel as the OP, and stayed upright 2x when hit in broadside in the rear quarter. Hate those fuckers more than anything.

Can I gift you a airbag vest? After 44 years of riding accident free (crashing at the race track doesn't count) I got rear ended on 3/25/17.

From the waist up, thanks to my HELITE airbag, I don't have a scratch. Below the waist, broken femur:
