I think they have...thus them coming out with their own 300. I'm sure their production planning goes out years, and they also probably have decent competitor intell to go with their own market forecasts. They are probably already aware of what Kawy is going to come out with.
Will try to get my hands on one, but holidays and long weekend starts today. Seems the 300 has the same bore as the 250 but longer stroked, and looking at the gear ratios its taller geared, so yes it seems more street motor. So theoretically the 300 engine would have a shorter life span than the 250 engine because its longer stroked, right? and 250 motor would more suited for more dirt oriented single track slow mountain trails like stuff, where you want to creep slow over rocks and rutty stuff, this is what i actually like on my 250.
Come to think of getting stuck in real deep mud is no big deal with the 250, it hooks up easy with no high rpm's, and the soft suspension has proved a life saver there so, its so easy jiggling the front forks or back end up and down to get out of a hole, just did it the other day, thinking, this was easy.
In this video you can clearly see the guy shifting from 1st to second at 40 km/h , and to third at seventy, 4th at 98, and up to 153 km/h (95mph) , so real time 140, or 86 mph.
The new Japanese-spec crf250l has switchable ABS, hope this feature will be on the international CRF300l (if we get one).
I have been waiting for new Yamaha WR250R’s to come back into inventory at the local area dealerships but nothing for a long time. Now the officially verified Instagram account for Yamaha Motor USA is saying the WR250R is being discontinued. That sad news from Yamaha moves a potential Honda CRF300L to the top of my wish list. I’m hoping the 300L becomes a reality because without it there is about to be a gap in the small dual sport market.
I‘ve met the 250 as a rental too, tough little things. It was just missing a few horses to be considered. The 300 might be the ticket. With the weight as advertised, it’ll be just about legal to carry on a hitch carrier over here.
Why? A few pages back someone posted this 300cc bike will do 90+ mph. That's almost all my 640 and 525 have on tap. So you might as well buy the heavier, less powerful, cheaper Japanese bike since it seems to possess magical horsepowers.
I thought of that because I was talking to an friend last night and he brought up the time he borrowed the radar gun from his cop car and we did speed trials. This was long before GPS. All the 350's topped out around 75-80 and the 650's at 80-85. But our speedometers were all reading about 90. Crafty Japanese devils with their feel good speedometer error had us fooled. It was fun laying on the tank on a three mile straight to see what they would really do flat out.
I think it's good Honda bumped these up to a 300. A 350 would be even better. That was my magic number when I was a younger and less lazy rider. It should help for folks that load these down with stuff. But let's keep it real on the expectations. It's still only a 300.
Please know that I have zero mechanical skills, with that out of the way.....my guess is that compression would be a bigger factor in terms of stress versus length of stroke.
Fancy...so like there's a breathalyzer you breathe into, and she will start up only if under your districts BAC?
