If you are planning on cruising Rte 66 along the foothills into LA (west of San Bernadino), it's smoky but clear sailing. There's a great small H-D shop along the way - super knowledgable and cool guys, in Montclair, CA.
Oh, and for accommodations in Holbrook, AZ or San Bernadino, CA, check out the Wigwam Motels... The one in Holbrook was the one the Cars (movie) crew based the Cozy Cone on, and I think Mater originated there as well...

Currently on the Million Dollar Highway headed north. My rattle ive been trying to find is definitely in the valvetrain of the rear head. Also somehow sheared to inner primary bolts. Anyone know of a decent indy towards telleuride?
Havent gotten as far as planning California but appreciate the info
Moteling it in Montrose Co tonight. Had planned to try to be in Utah tonight but decided I had to hit the million dollar highway while I was here. Well worth the effort my detour through the state forest trail put me on 149 south which is a gorgeous ride, then took 160 down to durango to hit 550 up to here.
550 is crazy dropoffs from Silverton to Ouray, but 160 was full if crazy switchbacks too
Cool RR! Did the Colorado thing 5 years ago. Probably my favorite riding around Colorado Springs!
Like your inmate name!
There’s a shop just north of Montrose on the hwy to Junction I’ve passed a few times but I’m sure there’s at least a few good ones in the area. Lots of bikers over there.
I guess for the time being I’m a resident of Delta Colorado. Stopped in George’s motorcycle shop in Montrose, he did’t think he’d have parts to do much for me and told me about a shop up here that I might have better luck, so went to TJ’s.
I was there a couple hours before they open and as soon as TJ pulled up he grabbed a stethoscope to try to diagnose it. Seems its most likely the lifters so he set me up, and dropped me off at a rv resort, and is tearing into the bike now. All before his opening hours. So great service so far and hopefully I’ll be on the road in a few days.
Lotsa worse places to be stranded. Is there at least a good pub or diner nearby?
Great trip on a really cool bike. Hope the repairs and rest of the ride go well. Thanks for the pix!
Theres plenty of places around. Still getting the lay of the land. Bike would definitely have been fine to continue for the time being but figured I’d sort it out before Im in the desert with a passenger
No riding today but theres loads of old cars everywhere here. Guess nothing rusts.
Any body know what the little red car is? Looks like a 3/4 scale shoebox ford and said f and K made in germany on it I’m somewhat familiar with european fords from my uncle’s collection of broken cars on the family farm in Ireland but never seen one of these
A couple Bitchin Vans
A complete and pretty clean 69 torino for $500 that would make a great parts car for my 68 fairlane convertible if I wasnt 2500 miles from home with a broken vehicle and a dwindling cash supply
And after a couple days at marveling at the amount of 80’s japanese pickemups, international scouts and old jeep j series still running around when their east coast brethren had all returned to the earth in my youth, I found the most shocking of all. Absolutely rust free, meanwhile I dont believe I’ve ever seen one still existing, let alone running in my 33 years of existence
