I like it because I can quickly filter out the open results by my $15 limit and the ability to message and share info without having to create new contacts etc.
Sure I’ve had a few difficult check-ins, but have had the same issues when doing on the fly check-ins. Nothing’s a certainty anymore.
And several times where the expectations weren’t met, had very prompt funds refunded by Airbnb.
Overall I like the experience of meeting a local who is renting out a room, etc. met some great folks this way already.
I also use iOverlander and other resources.

Ultimately I too will have to join the 21st Century. Private room hostels are perfect for me but I'm not a bunk dorm room kind of guy. As I get older I want privacy and quiet. That rules out many hostels.

I’m making a concerted effort to cease defining myself based on what I “like”or “don’t like” etc.
It’s a self-limiting function that stops us from growing.
And we’re never too old to grow and learn. And I’m no youngster, regardless of how immature I may seem at times

Another day, another Country knocked off the list.
I’m now sitting in Liberia Costa Rica!!
    Yay lol!
What a mess of a border crossing. Just under 3 hours. And it was hot. And it was sunny. Bleh.
But I persevered, stayed calm (even when I couldn’t fine the original copy of the bike’s registration...eventually did) and stayed hydrated.
Checking out of Nicaragua is nearly as bad and time consuming as getting into Costa Rica.
My reward music as I rode away from the border today? Neil Young’s “Comes a Time” album.
“This old world keeps spinnin’ round, it’s a wonder tall trees ain’t layin down, comes a tiiiiimmmme” with Linda Ronstadt doing background vocals.
    Excellent reward.
Room is clean. Shower clean with great pressure. Heading out to eat now.
You know the routine by now.

“You and I...we were captured. We took our souls and we flew away.
We were right...we were giving. That’s how we kept what we gave awaaaayy”
    Haha haha. Peace and Love!

    Love that album!
Your speeding through CA which is a shame but you have lots more adventure in front of you!

That was my thinking but then I remembered that his objective is to reach Ushuaia. Once he checks that off, we shall see what his spirit needs to feed on.

Cal, I spent way too much time enjoying Mexico.
Then realized the July 20th deadline to meet the Stahlratte in Panama.
I’ll go back to slo-mo mode on the return leg.
Plus there will be some familiarity with the details, and less stress.
My daily hours in the saddle have been less than 5, even if it appears I’m moving quickly.

Dan, you were here at Los Arcos in mid May It seems like it was much longer ago. It's been a great ride so far and a great report

Those cobblestone roads in Antigua are the worst! My wife and I came through a few months ago during Semana Santa, and between the roads and crowds it was horrible trying to get around. We are in Colombia now and have not come across cobblestone to match Antigua!

Enjoying your report. You may catch up with us! Say hello to the Stahlratte for us, we were on the first trip of the season beginning of June.

    “Fork?!?!”
    Hahahahahah

I’ve been following your ride Jim. And keep in touch. I’m sure we’ll meet along the way. Will say hey to Ludwig.

I’m fairly sure it’s Antigua’s roads that broke the two welds on my lower crash cage.

Speaking of meeting folks, I was invited to stay with a new FB friend tomorrow in the San Jose area in CR and hang out with the local KLR group.
They’re all gonna want DRs when I’m gone lol. Love meeting folks along the way.

So last night a friend connected me on FB to a friend of his living in Heredia Costa Rica who is a member of a large Costa Rican KLR owners group.
He offered me a room for the night so bam, just like that I was a man with a plan.
Just arrived at Esteban’s apartment, and am staying in the spare room.
I’m only 14 hours away from Puerto de Carti in Panama where the Stahlratte will pick me and Sunny up on the 20th.
Add 3 hours for the border (worst case scenario) and limit daily riding to 5 hours, and I’m only 3 days out from the boat.
Today’s the 14th, so that puts me in place three days early.
So am considering staying here two nights, but will see.
BTW, Esteban loves what I did to my DR lol. Said he wants one now.

It’s funny. I was sooo stressed and worried about all the Central America border crossings. Not sure why.
    But familiarity breeds confidence.
I’m not even concerned in the least with crossing into Panama.
I’ve crossed seven international borders now.
It’s just time after all. To anyone reading my story and considering a similar trip....just do it.
But leave all you pre-expectations and presumptive BS at home. Just go with the flow.
But if you spend part of each day telling yourself and others “I like this. I don’t like that” and it’s all people hear from you, stay home. You’ll never enjoy new, strange , different things.
    You’ll never expand your horizons.
You’ll be in a rut so deep that you’ll try every day to convince yourself that that’s the way you like it.
Eventually you’ll stop even wondering about things other that what you do every single day.
    Over and over.
So take a deep breath. And jump in!

    Hola!
Watch the first few minutes of “Cycles South “ and listen to his commentary.
My comments are a direct echo of his, as is my route and journey (though I’m not stopping at Panama)
