Javelinas are notorious for charging, then when the victim falls down they go in with the tusks. You may have got off easy, just sayin'
Dang it! I'm sorry this happened, Dan. I'm taking some quiet time to imagine you healed, happy, and continuing on your path.
I've been charged by a javelina while walking my dog. They mistake the dog smell as a coyote and the bigger ones will charge you to protect the younger ones from the mistaken predator. Last week I also rode my bicycle between an older one and a younger while they crossed the road in front of me. Reading what happen to OP makes me feel lucky the older didn't react on me as the younger one was stuck on the other side of the road waiting for my passage. Actual attacks where someone gets injured are very rare around here and all of the ones I have heard about involved either someone with a dog, or someone trying to feed them.
That was my first time seeing one. I’d seen a few wild boar in NC Amoky mountains area before. If I understand correctly they’re not pigs bit sure looked like one other than the hair and tall shoulders
As I posted, my initial thought. You basically got to a stop with one leg and toppled over. Very lucky all in all.
Only four footed varmint to catch me on a bike is a cheetah. I ride like a fiend. Good luck healing up Dan, really is a suckwad thing to happen after all your travails.
After what seemed like a day filled with sharp pain that went on forever, where Inwas counting down the minutes until the next round of pain pills, I awoke today with just a dull throb. Counting my remaining pills I’ve decided to start them later today so as to not run out. I definitely want a few in my system for the ride in Jays truck Friday to the medical center for surgery. All of my personal effects are Lockd up with Sunny at the impound lot, so I needed a toothbrush and a few other things as well as some meds for constipation (too much info lol?) the doctor wants me to take as the codeine has me bound up. I’ve been eating lightly so don’t feel bad. So my savior Jay has been making trips in town for my supplies. He’s a funny guy lol
I have same side effect with the pain meds. Adds insult to injury - and not a comfortable feeling. Hang in there - Friday’s coming.
Sorry to hear. Well wishes on a speedy and full recovery. Where exactly did this occur? What road were you on? At some point I want to do a ride out there. Javelinas, hogs, and deer are numerous all over Texas. Lawrence Grodsky, who wrote the safety column for Rider, had a fatal accident with a deer in the Ft. Stockton area in 2006.
Oh shit Dan. So sorry to hear the news. If you need any help getting yourself and sunny up to Colorado please let me know. I have a truck and trailer just a state away.
I appreciate the offer for assistance and will let you know if it’s needed. For now the plan is for Woody to come down and get me and Sunny after surgery
Crazy!!!!! I haven't checked in, in a while. Can't say this is the direction I was exspecting things to go. Take care of yourself and do what you need for you.... A book sounds good to me, set up an account and we can pre order/pay before you even write it, might help with the bills and adventure. Take care and rest/heal up..
Ah, yes. I've been on that road a few times. Sounds like you were closer to Sanderson than Marathon. Best wishes on your surgery, I'm sure it'll go well. This too shall pass.
Yes it is, but a fellow Adver negotiated a reduced rate. And it’s covered with secure parking. Probably safer than sitting in this motels parking lot
