Glad to hear all is good with the surgery. Hate seeing all the hospital pictures, as but for the grace etc, there go I. Best wishes for your recovery and the continuation of your journey.
Hi Dan, sending you best wishes for a speedy recovery, I can't believe the thousands of miles you have covered without serious incidents, yet as soon as you get back on home soil this happens! Sounds like my kind of luck - if it wasn't for bad luck, sometimes I wouldn't have any luck at all! Seriously though a leg injury is going to be slightly less disruptive to your life and shouldn't affect your new job at Woodys wheels (come on, you were made for that job, right!) All the best to you Dan - keep us posted - Mark
From Ohio to Ushuaia and mostly back again--what an adventure you've lived and shared, Dan! Road hazards and mechanical issues were expected, planned for, and surmounted. Frozen in place by a virus? Not anticipated, but nicely managed. Busted up by charging wild animals when nearly home free, who'd a thunk it??? Most folk fear 'bad people' when contemplating a trip like this, but you've encountered so many good people along the way. Kinda restores one's faith in humanity, me thinks. And that's something to cherish in these divisive days . . .
Sounds like your surgeon was totally on top of things. I really appreciate the photos and check-ins over the past few days. I have come to care for you over the past couple of years and it is comforting to hear from you. Here's hoping the next ten days go just right.
Was telling my wife your story -- again -- last night, about all the awesome people you've met on this adventure, and about how that's what always leads me back to these stories: the repeated discovery that when shit goes bad, good people somehow appear to help put it right again. Heal up and ride on!
We can all identify with this :) Not to say Dan has done anything stupid here... just really poor luck.
Payoff exceeds the risk... Hey Dan,glad your thru that ugly part Did you test negative on the Covid ?
Well, swerving left of center, to put more space between myself and the brood, inadvertently placed me closer to the unknown parents who were hiding in the brush watching the little ones cross safely. maybe they thought I was intentionally heading at them. Maybe the deceleration popping they also took as a threat. Whatever it was, they sacrificed themselves to protect their babies. So maybe in afterthought a bit stupid. In the future, if I realize what is in front of me earlier I’ll just pull to a stop before that crossing “line”. and yes on the negative COVID test James.
It might sound flippant, but if you’ve enjoyed my rambling narrative and pictures enough to hang in with me all this time and are still enjoying it, I care for you too! It’s not lip service when I talk about love for others being a primary edict. It’s an easy thing to say but not always easy thing to practice. But the dividends are priceless!!
There’s another factor at work here that I rarely discuss. I’ve met (and even ridden with) a number of assholes along the way. I just don’t like thinking (or, by writing about, refocusing) about these types of encounters. It would only tend to pollute the feelings. So I dismiss them as much as possible from my thoughts and recantations. Does that make sense somehow?
Have you ever noticed that you are more surprised by an asshole that does something nice, than a nice person that does an asshole thing?
Normally things start out fine and then you discover the assholiness. Who knows? Maybe I’m the asshole in their world view??
Your focus on the positive things in life is just one of your attributes that make following your journey interesting and enjoyable. Keep up the Positive Vibes, Dude!
