That was great Dan. The sound quality was way better than I expected. Getting your thoughts via voice along with the written really rounded off your Ride Report. Thanks!

Thanks guys. It was fun talking to him. I’m glad you enjoyed it!
I left Cuenca this morning for a mountainous route to Loja Ecuador. The room I have is RIGHT in the center of a pedestrian walking area packed with people. I rode right past them and into the Hostal entrance. Great room. One of the best yet!

Got groceries for a few breakfast meals. Three nights here oughta be about right. I’m less than a block from the historical center of Loja. Not far from the Peru border now.
Pictures later from the awesome ride today.

Like I said it was fun. I love to gab when I’m the right mood, and this journey has put me in that mood often.
Even the first attempt South, not including the hospital stay and subsequent worry and attention to change needed, had lots of awesome parts. Even the rough sections (not meaning road quality lol) taught me a lot about life in general and sustainable motorcycle journeys in specific, and have helped me enjoy part two much more.

Well, as I have kinda determined that I’ll be crossing into Peru around October 1st, and seeing as how I’m close to the border, I did the easy thing and decided to stay here in Loja another 5 nights. My reasoning is sound me thinks:
The Airbnb room here absolutely rocks. And at $10/night cannot he beat. Clean room, private bano with good shower. Comfortable bed. Secure bike parking and right in the old center of town. Everything you could need a short walk away. The kitchen here is excellent too.
If I spend <$20/day on food, with the $10/day for the room, I can stay well under budget, making up for the days when I’ve gone over budget. And I can enjoy a few nice things, like the scrumptious BBQ ribs I had last night with Ecuador craft ale!

While you haven't been pushing yourself real hard in the last few weeks, it has to be a good thing to get fully recharged before hitting it again.

BTW, I too enjoyed your interview. I'm fairly familiar with your story, yet it was still very powerful to hear it in your voice. Carry on Dan. You've got a lot of us back "home" supporting you.

Thanks for the kind words. Brightens the spirits!
Cold rainy day today here in Loja, so I’m glad I decided to stay additional days here and just relax. I finally found some bacon at a butcher that was somewhat normal for me and had nice bacon eggs and toast this morning with my coffee. Then another coffee and it was up to the rooftop lounge area where I watched a few shows on my laptop while watching it rain. Like so many cities in Ecuador that are situated in the Andes, there are mountains visible in nearly all directions from Loja.
Now in a few minutes the Indians play the Whitesox. Every game is important in their pursuit of a wildcard birth.
I’ve also been starting to look at the three options available for crossing into Peru, and hashing out a basic mental directive. Lots of camping options begin soon, which means a greater import to be placed on food acquisition for preparation, rather than prepared food at a restaurant etc

Hi Dan. I have absolutely nothing to add to your thread in regards to your trip.
Just wanted to share with you that at the 17th China International Motorcycle Trade Exhibition among the new bikes Zongshen displayed, was the Norton 650 (that they're making) and something called an RX6. Claiming it's 650cc size.

Yeah. It’s the same Twin they’re making for Norton and should be an awesome bike. Could only find one pic from that show of the RX6 (attached)

You are going to love the road from Vilcabamba to San Ignacio in Peru. Be sure to ride to Chachapoyas, Leimebamba to Celendin. It is an amazing road. One of the best I have ever ridden.
