Bike looks great Dan. That seat though, hope it is more comfortable than it looks.

A few things to address still:
Remove tank and see if the oil leak showed itself on the powdered motor.
Horn isn’t working. Investigate and solve.
Oil change with filter cleaning (using a stainless filter)
Last sort of my tools/spare parts
Lay out and check all camp gear.
Lay out check and pack clothes
Same for toiletries/drugs, electronics and charge cables, notebook, update maps on Garmin GPS
Boy did it feel great to be rolling along again.
Loving the new lower cage/highway pegs (reminder to tighten left peg)
In fact, will fall back in deep love with Sunny quickly. I could tell. The bike is just set up so nicely.

Another day ride yesterday. Beautiful Spring weather. Didn’t do anything real challenging, just some rolling farmland on secondary roads. Sunny continues to run very well.
Ended up at Rick Roush Motorcycle dealership in Medina Ohio. My online “home” Ohio Riders was having their “meat and greet” and it was a great opportunity to see some friends before leaving. It’s really nice of Rick Roush to let us use their meeting room and to provide pizza salad and drinks! Anyone around the Medina Ohio area would be well served by this dealership. Nice folks.
I also reconnected with another friend @Tinman Tim who next week will help me reinforce the top rack Givi mount to make it more robust, and also will help me build an aluminum tool box to fit behind the left pannier! Tim used to build bad ass aluminum ADV panniers and he’s the man for the job!
Also now have a May 8th appointment with Cogent suspension to meet them at their shop and get my suspension refreshed before heading West to the Overland Expo West! Big thanks to Todd at Cogent (@NC Rick ) for his follow up call and help getting things scheduled and helping me relax a bit, as that’s one less thing to be concerned with. To be quite honest, the suspension on Sunny still feels awesome, with no leaks at either end, after 20,000 miles of hard travel, and most of the TAT....heavily loaded.
Cogent nailed the settings on my bike.

    Getting sooooo close now.

Trimming where I’m comfortable doing so. And I’m going to try to pack a bit lighter. What a mess!

I used to backpack a lot. When you're up in the mountains you just can't stop at a store to pickup what you need. So, packing the right stuff is really critical. Now when I'm packing for a moto trip I have the same focus. I have to tell myself, "don't take so much stuff, now you CAN stop and just buy what you need."
On your last trip, it seemed to me that you had a LOT of stuff for one person.

It has been a year today since you started this thread and your still talking about it. From what you have learned so far what do you plan on doing differently on this trip, Have you learned more Spanish? Do you have a timeline to follow? You spoke of getting a riding partner this time, any luck?

I’m trying to reduce the load. Less clothes for one. Smaller toolkit with less redundancy. And having to carry a tent bag and mattress through Mexico and CA for camping opportunities here and there sucks, but I know I’ll camp a lot in the Patagonia region.
    So yes, am cutting down.

Yes, am still working daily on my Spanish and it’s coming along much better than last year. Am not at conversational level quite but much much better.
    Timeline is simpler too:
Cogent suspension visit in NC May 8th.
OX West May 17-19 Flagstaff AZ.
    Then Into Mexico
Meet Stahlratte either 6/25 or 7/20 in Carti Panama. The 7/20 date allows for more time to visit friends in Mexico.

And as far as riding with someone, the friend that said he was going has backed out for personal reasons.
So it’s a solo journey (again)
The biggest hurdle is staying healthy this time.
Sometimes it takes a barrier or two in your way to make you realize how badly you want it
Last year’s attempt did end up being five months and 22,000 miles in total. And I look at it less as a fail as I used to. If I hadn’t turned around after the health problem, I wouldn’t have ridden the West Coast and across the TAT.

All in an attempt to locate the oil leak on the left top end.
    The culprit was twofold:
The Rocker cover had several seeps right near the inside spark plug cavity.
The front valve inspection cover also had a slight seep.
So I removed the cover, cleaned well, installed a new cam bore plug and made a nice bead where instructed of black Permetex high temp sealant. Lowered it onto the two locators and wiped the squished-out spooge off.
    All went together well.
Also repaired the horn, cleaned the oil filter and filled her with fresh oil.
Sunny’s nearly ready. Actually she is.
Maybe flush fresh brake fluid through.
Yeah. That’s what I’ll do tomorrow.

She fired right up and runs strong (I am getting much better at adjusting the valves, which had to be done again after the rocker cover removal and replacement) so I’m confident in my work.
Rode her home and have been working all afternoon on the final packing. Definitely packed smaller and lighter than the initial load.
Smaller tool roll (removed redundant tools)
    Less clothes
Nearly wrapped up now, so I’m officially moving departure up to Cinco de Mayo!
It’s about to storm here now, so I have to get inside. Just covered Sunny (don’t have a garage at my Fathers where I’m staying) and am gonna head in and make something to eat.
    quatro dias!

I’m just visiting but will be hanging out mainly with the crew from Woodys Wheel Works. Woody’s a dear friend and they supplied some bombproof wheels for my bike. @woody's wheel works builds the World’s best!

    Yo Tagman

Is the offer for a place to crash in San Carlos still good?
I'll be most likely entering MX at Nogales after leaving Arizona.
Your area might be a great stop!
    Let me know and thanks!
