South out of Loja to Zumba Ecuador. Just north of the border.
I was connected to another American on a DR650 riding from California to Ushuaia and he and I will connect tomorrow and cross into Peru together. He’s got a video series of his trip going, and is carrying a drone. Should be fun. Maybe he and I can traverse Chachapoya-Cajamarca together. His name is Benjamin Jorgens. His website is solosouth.net.

The street art is amazing! Thanks so much for sharing pics of places I will never get to go. My health issues ensure that I could not start such a journey, so I live it through your pics and narrative.

Thanks! Sunny is running good right now. I’m feeling good most days. It’s weird being on the road this long to me. Loving it though. Wanting it to never end lol.

Thank you. I enjoyed the interview and would do it more if Mr. Martin would have me!
As far as this being your favorite place? I can see why. Today was the best road I have ever ridden by a long long margin. I’m still floored. More crazy roads tomorrow.

Glad I can help. Sending positive vibes your way man for better feeling days ahead! Happy you are enjoying the pictures.

Thanks. I love it too, so ya’ll are forced to view what “I” like, not what I think that you’ll like lol

Thanks. Gonna keep going till I can’t. And each of these countries have such distinct personalities.

Like today. Funny true quick tale:

Riding along, WAY up in the Andes above the clouds. I think it was 11,300 ft or so.
Pass by a dilapidated adobe building with aged political slogans painted on the side. Paint chipped and half gone.
“Manuel Sanchez” in large white letters.
And next to his name, a large, for lack of a better description, a cartoon-large cowboy style hat...all out of proportion painted in yellow.
“Well, that’s funny” I think to myself as I roll by, imagining why an obviously out of normal hat was his “symbol “ and such idle thoughts that you have when rolling along in thin air on single lane roads with death around every corner lol!
Just then, we come around a slightly foggy corner and there, walking along the side of the road in the fog, was an old man, crouched over, wearing a typical mountain shawl and the biggest, tallest, funniest damn cowboy/ circus cowboy wild hat!! True lol.
Attached are pics from today’s ride from Cahachapoyas to Celedin on Peru PE-08B, now my favorite all time road.

A bit late since I think you’ve already crossed, but Chris and Sharon Struna crossed at La Balza recently, and could not buy insurance on the Peru side - there was no one selling. They had a hard time finding a somewhere to buy less than a years insurance once they crossed. Finally did manage in Cajamarca as I recall.

I could put you in touch with them if you would like to know more on that and/or road conditions. PM me if interested.

Yes, insurance is no longer available to tourists in San Ignacio.
You have to ride further to Jaen like we did. Two months SOAT for 230 sole.

Is this couple riding two up on a KTM 1190?

No, they are on a pair of Suzuki DR’s. We’ve connected with them several times since an accidental meet-up in Baja, and were on the Stahlratte together.

Checking in from the coastline of Peru in Puerto Malabrigo, a surf town know for the world’s longest waves.
It was a long day out of the Andes. From 13000 ft to sea level. Tremendous views. Nice weather. Smooth pavement for the most part. What unpaved roads we were in seemed easy after yesterday’s ride.

After breakfast, Benjamin Jorgens parted ways with us, looking for challenging territories to film for the documentary he’ll work in upon completion of his trip.
Caro wanted to hit the coast and surf, and I’ll just watch her surf lol.
At one point I was on fumes as we both tried to make destination without a prior fillup.
Mine took 9.24 gallons to fill!
Crazy winds today. Sand dunes that look like mountains. Pictures later.

Today’s ride was from Bambamarca in the Andes, up over an even higher pass (topped out at 13,300 ft) and then down down into the Rio valley and through rolling valleys until finally descending onto the coastline, where, on fumes from passing one too many fuel supplies, we arrived in Puerto Malabrigo Peru, where Caro and I will stay a few days before moving on.
Ben decided to go his own way after breakfast, as he really wants to explore some more wild off-road for drone photography for the documentary he’s planning on when his trip is done. Best of luck to Ben and I’m sure we’ll see each other again. His web site is solosouth.net.
I’ll continue to hang with Caro as long as she’s heading in a similar direction and timeframe.
She’s an damn good rider and stays nice and steady and doesn’t take huge chances. I’ve been taking up the rear, following her XRE300 as it chugs along nonplussed, smooth and steady. I’m impressed with the bike. My friend Geoff also has one he let me ride one afternoon in Mexico and I had a blast. It’s be a great bike with a few tweaks.

Here are some pictures from the ride from Bambamarca to Puerto Malabrigo Peru

While you are in that area, you should consider checking out the ruins at Chan Chan and the even more impressive Huaca de la Luna, near Trujillo. When we visited those, Carol and I avoided the chaos of Trujillo and stayed in nearby Huanchaco, a laid back surfer/backpacker village right on the coast that I think you’d like. Only an hour south of you, could be a day trip.

Thanks Jim. Glad you’re following along for the RO crowd. Miss you guys. And it is a wonderful world!
Andy, you shoulda found a way to come with me. It woulda been great to share it. Always liked riding with you. Miss ya man!
Caro and I visited the ruins at Cao along with the museum. Then we rode to Huanchacho and I checked my things into Hostal El Chinguirito and we rode to Huaca de la Luna. Problem is they shut down ticket sales early because of the Sunday crowd. There were pissed off people at the boleto window. Policies were called. I took video of a woman dressing down a Peru cop. Will post it later. We ended up riding back to the Hostal. I’m staying here at least two days, so I’ll check out de la Luna y el sol tomorrow or the next day. Caro is moving on. She has a friend from home (France) meeting her somewhere in Peru soon and she wants to get that all straight. I’m sure we’ll cross paths again, but for now it’s back to solo sailing

I love street art. Will make sure to keep posting it. Lots of museum pictures to come from all the ancient Moche ruins in Peru. Hope you enjoy them. Thanks for following along Tinfish!

I'd love to meet and share some yarns. To be honest, since I left I've streamed plenty of movies, etc, but haven't really kept up on other folk's blogs.
So, if you are posting, and heading South on the S10, gimme a shout. Easiest way for direct contact is through FB messenger and/or Whatsapp
    Best of luck!
