I was looking forward to the LWU until the Livewire announcement.
Now it’s even more of a circus than either of the two prior fully supported trips. I’m sure there will be good footage and the electric bikes/pickup truck angle will make for some great drama...but to me it was a letdown.
I may run into them. That’d be weird

I'm guessing there will be an absurd amount of support, generators charging extra batteries and what not. Not at all excited about this one.

Sitting around the campfire with generators going all night...
    Kinda ruins the serenity.

They're South of the Equator so they charge the batteries with solar cells at night.

I liked the museum photos, particularly the clay heads.
And the eagle wing! was that carved stone? Wow
    Thanks for sharing your adventure.

Hey @Ohio_Danimal any plans to ride Bolivia? I could spend a month just riding around that country. It’s stunning.

The eagle wing was bronze. Impressive detail.
    Glad you enjoyed the pics

I think on the way back, as incentive (as if any is needed) to hit some awesome stuff I missed on the way down.
Also, I need to research again the crossing requirements. I think I have to visit a Bolivian embassy in Peru to obtain the visa before arriving at the border. That correct?

I had a great ride today with a nice hike thrown in.
Rather than just ride the 1.4 miles to the new Airbnb apartment, I left early enough to do a three hour loop South out of Cuenca and visited Giron Ecuador, home of Cascada El Chorro, a beautiful waterfall a short steep hike away from parking (they let me park Sunny right next to ticket entrance booth) Normally $3 entrance for foreigners, she musta felt sorry for me and only charged me 2 gold coins.
After the loop, checked in to my new digs. Clean and in many ways nicer than the last spot. Good wifi too. And right across the street from a park.
Here are some pictures from today!

Isn't it interesting how simply accelerating water with gravity can make you feel so alive?

Nature's landscape art is pretty cool too. Beautiful pictures, that was a good long way around to take to your new place.

Dan, just a reminder that next Monday, 23 Sept. is the Autumnal Equinox so down there your days will begin to be longer that night time. Hurray!

Ya, the Bolivia entrance / visa is different for US citizens than Canadians. No visa required for Canucks. $160 for US if I recall correctly. Maybe check with other inmates as the time draws nearer. Yellow Fever vaccination required for everyone. You can get that in Cuenca for cheap - or did you do that already? Although I was never asked for the vaccine certificate at the border.

The “good” part is that the $160 visa is supposed to be good for ten years, though there are still time limits per visit. That duration probably isn’t that useful for most of us going through there.

Paraguay has a similar set up FYI.

So what about the detail on where to obtain the Bolivian visa? I’ve seen varying details. What did you do?

    Dan,

I’ve not been yet, but my research showed that it could be obtained at the Bolivian Consulate in Los Angeles. It can be done by mail, but that requires sending in your passport, which I was uncomfortable doing and not an option for you.

Here’s a link to the process for American Citizens still in country: http://boliviala.org/us-citizen-visa-requirements

I’ve followed several overlanders/inmates have gotten into Bolivia w/o issues, and found a couple of references saying that Americans can get the visa on arrival, but still costs $160 (no matter what) for the ten year, multi-entry.

Hope this helps a little. Anyone with direct experience care to chime in?

I’ll look into it further. Thanks. Just been lazy getting details, and, like I said, can always hit Bolivia on the way back north.

I’ve been invited to join a local motorcycle group tonight for their “motorcycle Thursday” get together.
Hell Riders Cuenca! I looked at their FB page and they’re not a bunch of Harley worshipping leather-clads (though there’s nada wrong with that assuming peaceful behavior). It looks like the typical Ecuador smatterings of Pulsars, Baja’s and maybe a couple Royal Enfields.
Meeting at a local bar called Safari at 8pm tonight. A few drinks and then a cruise around town I think lol. Should be interesting to say the least.
