Thanks Brian!. Think about the rides we've gone on often when in that area. Thought about you (and your riding style) a bit the last couple of days during some break-in miles tooling around some dirt and gravel and twisties in Ohio. The suspension package Cogent put together for this bike is SO tight (not bad tight, but taut, firm, well controlled, and i'm riding it unloaded!) that I've found myself tearing down stuff I used to plod along. Gotta take it easy!
So some numbers on break-in and motor so far. Today refilled the tank. Started sputtering at 412 miles. Switched both petcocks to reserve, and she ran fine again. Looked for gas, and at 415 miles filled her back up (same spot about 4" below neck....transluscent Sarafi 30L tank)
415 miles and took 7.811 gallons, so just over 53mpg.
That should be a reliable 400 mile range.
    I'm pleased.
And aside from a few adjustment tweaks, the cockpit is incredibly calm and quiet at speed for a DR650. The Yenkro/Safari/Tall screen really makes it comfy, just what I wanted for long days. Today it never got over 48 degrees F. Heated grips were at 75%, jacket liner about half. With GPS running and LED alt lamps on, voltage stayed just over 13V. If I cranked the Gerbing liner to full blast, grips to full blast, the voltage dropped, but stayed about 12.4V, so I think the high capacity stator is doing well.
A few break in miles pictures!

Lost a nut and spacer on the adjustable wind deflector...luckily caught the deflector and shoved into my tank bag. Moments later I passed "Spikes Vintage Motorcycles" and pulled in. The owner Mike (awesome guy, shop FILLED with classic Japanese bikes being restored and a bunch of classic bike and Royal Enfields for sale) hooked me up (wouldn't accept payment) with the locknut and spacer I needed and I was back on my way. If you are ever in the Canton Ohio area look them up

Then got to hang out with some Ohio Riders members (a more local forum I frequent) and sip on some homemade bourbon (mmmmmm)

Was sunny but cool.. Where the HELL did Spring go?

And then on way home stopped (GOD I hope not for the last time before I leave) at Peggy Sues...Had their famous ribs, and a slice of PB pie...wow, gonna miss Peggy Sues...a known MECCA for Ohio ADV riders

About time for her first oil/filter change. Will do again at 2000 miles along with valve check. Will take a couple paper filters with me, and then switch to a stainless filter at around 5000 miles, along with switch to synthetic oil

yeah, a friend of mine (and others on Ohio Riders) has a knack. By the time I got there the Apple Pie was gone, but even his "2nd grade" Bourbon was delicious. And I'm a beer drinker. Gotta admit I had it on ice and sipped. Sobeit.

Good to hear you are climbing back on after that window face plant.

I had an encounter with a pit bull centerpunched em and it was like hitting a feed sack.

Was on a RX3 and broke multiple bones.Good choice with a 21” wheel for getting over those feedsacks

That might shoot out in front of you.The 18” front on the RX3 and light weight and she went full lock

    Body slammed me.

It’s hard working the demons out of your head to ride again after a major crash.

Every driveway now I envision a flying feedsack barreling out to velcro themselves onto the front wheel.

Anyway will be following along and will see you down south as I have my own plans but that’s another story.

Good Luck and see ya......down the road......

If it's too early, or you don't feel comfortable discussing in the open, PM me please. Would be awesome to ride with you, regardless of what bike you're on, or the circumstances involved.

Picked up more support for my trip. Wanted a locking mount for my Zumo660 GPS and Rick from Zumolock comes to the rescue. Will make sure to give you folks a fair review and feedback on daily use on a long trip. System looks very elegant compared to what else is out there.
    Thanks Rick and Zumolocks!

Also a shout out to another company offering support.
Guglatech in Italy make the best in-tank fuel filters out there and hooked me up.
Thanks to Guglielmo Ferrazzani, Product Specialist at Guglatech for your help.
Should help eliminate worries about fuel along the way

It's a Givi Trekker Outback topbox, that utilizes their Monokey mount. Comes off and on smoothly and easily.

One thing I'm not sure I like is that the case cannot latch shut unless it's locked. So not I carry spare key in the tabkbag.

Outside that small complaint it's nice and solid
