I know that but I would feel a bad sense of Karma if I did displace somebody from the system who was having a medical emergency at this moment. Besides, I am home with a kidney stone (recovering) stent in place (stent comes out today) so I am not feeling all the greatest right now anyway. Not really up to a ride. I am grateful that I am home with a roof over my head, dogs sleeping on their beds in the house, and food in the pantry. Simple gifts.
Wifi in the entire neighborhood keeps coming and going. Hopefully not a precursor of things to come.
Brazil’s President is receiving flack for not taking the Covid-19 spread seriously enough.
Whether that helps me or not is yet to be seen.
I’ve rented this place through April 19th and hopefully I’ll be able to ride towards Bolivia at that time. Basic plan is to cross Bolivia into Peru and then continue north from there.
The owner of this apartment is supportive and understanding and speaks decent English.
The woman at the local market recognizes me now and also exhibits no fear of me because I’m a foreigner. And they take my debit card so finding an ATM is less crucial than I thought (closest ATM is 3-1/2km away).
Hopefully the wifi comes back good enough to watch a movie or three.
Just got back from the market and we’re loaded for food for the next few days.
That’s about it. Sleeping a lot. Eating well. Trying to make friends with the owner’s dog Kelvin but he’s pretty skittish.
Wishing I was riding and my only worry was where to find fuel. Seems like ages ago already.
In case you are not following her, Noraly (itchy boots) crossed out of Bolivia in to Peru about a week ago the day that the border was announced to be closing at midnight. By coincidence she had just the day before decided to stay in place a week to rest up, and had paid for one week membership at a fitness club.
If you are following Noraly and already know this, then don't bother to read this entry.
Nah, I’m aware of her but don’t follow her (or anyone really right now aside from a few) as I’m doing my own thing man, lol
Spoken like a true Hippie.
But he's our hippie.
Advrider knows no boundaries. You/ we have to share the Dan.
As long as the wifi here stays up, I’m planning on doing a live video at 6pm on my FB page. for reference it’s 5:13pm here right now
Chicken breast strips dipped in egg and coated with sweet potato flour, with local corn.
It seems that Bolsonaro is another president who's lost the plot.
The president has contradicted his own health ministry by urging people to return to work and schools – ‘I was gobsmacked,’ said one former Bolsonaro ally.
These times truly weed out the imposters from the real leaders. Here in the United States, I've been so impressed with how Governor Andrew Cuomo has handled the pandemic for his state of New York...I wish he were in charge of the federal response.
As I said earlier, I'm not sure whether Bolsonaro's lackadaisical attitude will end up helping or hindering my attempt to leave Brazil.
I'm sure that I will first need confirmation that the border to Bolivia is indeed open again and travel permitted.
Right now, the only sign of change visible is a lack of traffic on the main road near my apartment, and the grocery store metering how many people at a time they are allowing inside (10)
This down time is sure allowing a lot of room for thought, and time for reflection.
I'm just about reflected out. The second the winter sanding is swept and washed from the streets, I'm gone riding to reflect on quiet country back lanes with camera in tow.
A sure sign of spring - the Canada Guess are back to the lake my condo fronts onto. The bombs away on sidewalks is further proof.
Thank goodness this blog is about me and my reflections lol
Believe me. My thoughts are with you and many of you I admire essentially stranded in far-away places. Who could have foreseen this when you departed? I hope you emerge from this as early as possible unscathed and headed north safely. There is much storytelling yet to come from you. I await it. You're doing what I can't. I'm grateful.
Well stated. Thank you. I truly appreciate the positive thoughts
If I could place myself there just for sport, I'd do so. Lord knows I'm doing F-all here.
