Hang in there Dan. It would be nice if you knew all the hoops you will be required to jump through ahead of time, but where’s the Adventure in that?:-)

Daniel, I have not a clue about the many obstacles you've had and still need to overcome until you get to where you need to be...but I hope you find what you need to be happy...for myself, those two young ladies in Peru(?) sitting on the bike wanting you to come back to visit make a HELL of a lot more sense than trying to come back to this nuthouse of a country until the adults get back in charge of things...but then, I'm a fan of John Prine and it's time to blow up my TV, throw away my paper, move to the country, and build me a home...good luck, my friend!

Nice to read the other stories too, wow. I live such a candy ass life compared to you and all the other stranded travellers. Hope you are celebrating the long weekend too until you can get down to business in a few days.

I understand why you need to pursue the undertaking. Hoping the crap & stress of returning to the Land of Lies/Bitterness/Chaos/& more Stress, ........., isn't too foreboding.

Finishing off another bottle of Montilla rum. Watching the first episode of Netflix’s new series “Away”. It’s quite good.

It’s a wet and windy Independence Day here in Brazil. About 62deg F. Power went out a few hours ago, so no wifi, and matches used to light the stove to make coffee! Using precious data!

Independence Day of Brazil, commonly called Sete de Setembro, is a national holiday observed in Brazil on 7 September of every year. The date celebrates Brazil's Declaration of Independence from the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves on 7 September 1822

So you think Mexico would be a good place to live? Drug cartels = no worries?

There are more than a few cities in Mexico where I’d live. Just don’t be wandering backroads at night.
Hell, one of my favourite cities, San Miguel de Allende, used to be considered one of the safest. Then after Amlo, Cartel activity in Guanajuato state exploded, but not because of drugs. Because of fuel theft (major refineries are there). We’re talking tapping into main fuel pipelines and trucking full tankers of stolen gas around. I’ve been at a Pemex station when an illegal shipment arrived. Everyone was ushered away. Armed guards stood around the truck. From across the street from my second story balcony I watched the exchange of cash.
Then in the morning I filled my tank from those same pumps. Whatcha gonna do?

I went to the local health dept to get an official copy of my birth certificate the other day. Unbelievably they did not ask for an ID! All i needed was my parents full names, my SS number, and signature! So, if you need a copy, someone else could likely get them for you.

400 conejos! Bought a bottle at the duty free last year on my way home from a mex city/sma/Guanajuato trip. They say you don’t get hung over from mezcal, don’t know if I believe it or not but I love the stuff. Spend the extra pesos for the reposado, worth it.

I miss the hell out of Mexico and wonder if I’ll get back anytime soon.
