Oh jeez. Good luck Dan, glad someone is with you. Sending positive vibes your way.
Sh...Hope your leg to recover fast. Get well. I send good vibe.
Wishing you a quick recovery...keep us posted when you can.
Let us know what you need Dan.
So sorry to hear this, Dan. Sending good thoughts your way for a speedy and complete recovery.
He posted on FB that both bones in left leg are broken just below the knee. 2 javelinas charged out and hit him in the leg. He didn't crash but fell over when he stopped and put his leg down. Border Patrol came by to help him right away. He's in the Alpine hospital on painkillers and not scheduled for surgery until Friday.
Thanks for the update @Drybones. @Ohio_Danimal, as others have said, let us know what you need. At least it sounds like Sunny came out of it mostly okay.
Well, shit. Sending healing mojo!
I pray for the speedy and complete recovery of Ohio_Danimal.
Damn. So sorry to hear this Dan.
Heal up quickly Dan! Apparently you really didnt need to set off on adventure, because it seems to find you wherever you go!
Shit, that really blows.
All positive karma, prayers your way bro!
If someone does a contribution or anything like that please post here so.
Hope Sunny’s good to:)
PayPal or Venmo?
Go fund me takes to much , but whatever can help a brother when he needs us.
Dang! Sorry to hear about this. Those hogs are pretty nutty! Must have been a big one.
A big thanks to Jay Masterson for helping. In more ways that I care to mention for embarrassing reasons.
Jay picked me up at the hospital. Took me to get my paid meds prescription filled. And he agreed to share a motel room so I have someone to help me get around. Absolutely cannot move the left leg. The end of the fibia by the knee snapped off. The other main bone broke as well. So surgery is needed, no doubt screws and pins etc. and with the specialist unavailable until Friday, I wait for surgery.
Just can’t get comfy. Wearing a restriction brace in an attempt to keep things aligned.
It could have been far worse.
Coming over a hill at 70mph I saw a group of small javelinas crossing from left to right. They were already over the center.
I let off the throttle as they cleared the road, and steered left of center to make the gap between them and me larger.
Then in a blink, two huge javelinas charged out of the bushes and right into my leg.
I somehow maintained control and pulled into the right edge of the road. As I braked to a stop, it was obvious I couldn’t use the left leg. I slowly fell over into the left side, left leg trapped under the bike.
I fully expected there to be blood and bones sticking out. I lay there with my torso in the road, and after a few minutes a Border Patrol officer pulled over. As well as a man towing a trailer with a helicopter on it. Then another Border agent. Then a Fish and Game warden, who had a sat phone.
They dragged me off the road and tried to make me comfortable. They also lifted Sunny back on her side stand.
Then a bumpy painful ride to the emergency clinic in Alpine TX.
And here we are. Left big toe got smashed too, so will loose that toe nail.
Thanks everyone for the well wishes. Hopefully I can stand this pain level for five days until I’m under the knife. Hopefully the pain meds calm it down.
Another Adv rider James (@inroads) located where Sunny is stored. I may be picked up after surgery by TG “Woody” Witte along with Sunny.
Cutting apart my favorite BMW pants. Sooo many miles and memories in them
Thanks for the update Dan. You are damn dedicated to be taking pics as you lay there on the ground with a smashed leg. Best wishes as you proceed from here and hope the pain meds do the job.
The Border agent told me twice to not worry about the bike when I asked how it was, so I grabbed my phone and took pics of her (I couldn’t turn my body). And I figured why not a selfie at the same time
Thanks for this very painful to read update, can't imagine being on the receiving end of it. You are a trooper, through all the pain, taking pictures, and as expected making sure Sunny is good, before you are even sorted out. Hopefully the specialist comes sooner than Friday, if not may the pain killers speed the time up. Looks like you are looked after Jay, and James and then Woody to the final rescue, what an awesome group of guys.
Thanks for the update Dan. Nasty business indeed. I suppose it could have been worse. You might have gone down at that 70 mph. That you got help on the road and have a helper on hand is a godsend. Here’s to a speedy recovery.
Let us know what size and model pants those were, as I (and I'm sure others) are on BMW-specific lists for sales... we can keep an eye out for a replacement pair.
